This means that homeowners need to be careful when deciding on adding a pool to their building.

In the spirit of being careful while choosing a swimming pool for your building, this article will discuss cogent factors and considerations that must be taken into account when choosing or buying a pool.

Factors to Consider when Buying a Swimming Pool

There is more to a swimming pool than a body of water where your family and friends lounge and have a swell time. There are health, financial, as well as aesthetic considerations to make when buying a swimming pool.

The failure to make all of these considerations may result in you paying more than necessary for the swimming pool, either initially or in the long run.

Also, there is a chance that the pool may not be safe enough for you if you don’t consider these factors. This is because some of the factors touch on the usability of the swimming pool.

These are some of these factors

The Type of Swimming Pool

This should be this factor you consider once the thought of getting a pool comes to you. If you are new to the world of pools, you can meet up with experts who will give you the three types of pools. These are concrete, fiberglass, and vinyl liner pool. The most common of these three options is the fiberglass pool. In fact, most experts would advise you to get a fiberglass pool, except you have certain needs that the fiberglass pool doesn’t offer. As an example, there is a standard size for a fiberglass pool which means you cannot get a bigger size.

There are numerous reasons for the popularity of fiberglass pools. First off, they are low maintenance.

You would spend less time and resources cleaning the pool as you would do for concrete and vinyl liner pools. While the two pool types are highly susceptible to algae and staining, fiberglass pools are not.

Fiberglass pools are also smooth so you don’t have to worry about scratching your leg or hand when you touch the base or sides of the pool.

And finally, you can install the fiberglass pool at any time of the year, regardless of weather conditions. This is unlike the concrete and vinyl liner pool that requires optimal weather conditions.

Cost

The cost is another important factor that you may want to consider when getting a pool. By cost, we refer to the encompassing financial commitment you will have to make to get the pool up and running.

This means, both the initial cost and the lifetime cost ownership. We have touched on the three major types of swimming pools. Now, let’s examine the cost implication for each of them.

To get the cost of a fiberglass pool, multiply the length of the pool by 1000 and add $15,000 to $25,000. This means that a 25-foot pool would cost between $40,000 and $50,000.

And that’s not all. You may need to spend around $10,000 on other external works such as landscaping, electrical work, fencing around the pool, and others. However, due to its low cost of maintenance, the estimated maintenance cost over 10 years is $3750.

The concrete pool is the most expensive of the three pools. Depending on the size of the pool, you may need to spend between $50,000 and $100,000 on a concrete swimming pool. And the estimated maintenance cost for 10 years is $27,400.

The last type, the vinyl liner pool is the cheapest option of the three. It costs between $35,000 and $65,000 to build the pool. The estimated maintenance cost is around $11,500 for 10 years.

Timeframe for Completion

As with any construction project, the longer it takes, the expensive it becomes. You also need to consider the duration of the installation of the swimming pool.

As a rough estimate, fiberglass should take about 3 to 6 weeks for installation. The company that handles the installation of the pool must be a top-rated and professional one so that you can get the pool within this timeframe.

The concrete pool is the longest to complete. Because it involves the use of concrete that needs about 28 days to cure, the installation process takes a very long time. On average, the concrete pool should take about 3-6 months to complete.

The vinyl liner pool is somewhat in between the two as it takes about 4-8 weeks to complete its installation. All of these timeframes are rough estimates and depend on the size of the swimming pool, the expertise of the professionals handling the project, and many others.

Size

This factor is so important that they affect the aforementioned factors. The size of the swimming pool determines the activities that occur in the pool, the number of people that would use the pool, and the plans of the homeowner.

For instance, if the homeowner is single at the moment, would he or she consider the large-sized pool for the future, in case of marriage and childbirth.

Shape and Design

The shape and design of the pool are usually up to the homeowner’s preferences. You could choose a pool with a linear design or one with a curved design.

However, you may need to consider the size, shape, and design of your yard, the one where the swimming pool will sit. All of these factors will help you in making the right choice and decision with regard to your pool.
