  1. Brush and Sweep Your Carpet

The first and important step is to make sure that the carpets on your stairs are cleaned from dust particles and debris. You wouldn’t want to start vacuuming right away if you’re aiming to perform deep cleaning.

According to Sandeep from BnCleaning, a professional cleaning company in Australia, “Dirt, and debris doesn’t just collect in your carpets – it also builds upon the sides of your stairs. It gets caught in the railings, on the wood or metal frame, and against the wall where the carpet meets“.

So here are a few steps to brush and sweep the carpet:

  • Don’t start off by using broom right away. Focus on removing the bigger particles first using the brush. This will help the cleaning process more effective.
  • Use brushes that allow you to take a close up to the carpet surface, and that’s right, you have to kneel down in this process
  • Once done, you can go ahead and clean the remaining part with a high-quality mop.
  1. Vacuum Your Carpeted Stairs

Note that at this point, all the dirt and macro dust particles are loosened. Now, you can go ahead and start vacuuming the carpet.

Remember, the purpose of removing all the bigger particles first is to ensure that the vacuum cleaner can reach through the carpet surface effectively.

Choosing the Correct Vacuum for the Task

When cleaning the carpet stairs, choosing the right vacuum type is crucially important. An upright vacuum is really not advised for cleaning stairs. Typically heavier and bulkier, an upright vacuum will be tough to maneuver up and down the stairs.

To learn more about the right type of vacuum cleaner for the stairs, check out the article here.

Coming back to the vacuuming step, be ready to vacuum your carpet multiple times, at least 2 times. This is because the carpet surface is thick and it will definitely take more than once to ensure that the dust is removed.

Don’t forget to empty the vacuum cleaner bag whenever it’s necessary as well.

  1. Steam Clean Your Carpeted Stairs

Steam cleaning has become a popular technique to effectively clean your carpet. This method uses steaming hot water to penetrate the carpet and dislodges the dirt.

The powerful hot water force will help clear off any extra micro dust particles which will enhance your cleaning process.

Benefits of Using Steam:

  • It is eco-friendly
  • It helps kills allergen and any harmful particles
  • Steams help soften the carpet surface, hence open up the pores which makes cleaning much easier
  • It clears out stains

In order to clean your carpet using steam, you can use any typical steam cleaner to do the work. Even if you don’t do regular carpet cleaning, at least steam cleaner will add that extra layer to clean any part in your house.

  1. Shampoo Your Carpet

So you’ve cleared all the macro and micro dust particles. Next is to remove all the smells and any uncleaned portions in the carpet using shampoo.

Most of the commercial cleaning shampoo comes in the form of foam. The foam works to loosen deep down dirt in the fibers so that it can be picked up by a vacuum. This product also offers a brightening agent to keep the fibers of your carpet clean and vibrant.

Once you’re done with the shampooing process, wait at least 12-24 hours for the carpet to dry. Then you can move on to the next step.

  1. Vacuum the Carpet Again

This may sound a bit counter-intuitive, but the reason why you need to vacuum your carpet again is to ensure that the final cleaning process is performed and that any dust and dirt that get bubbled up after the shampooing process gets cleaned.

However, make sure you empty up your vacuum cleaning bag to ensure that no particles fall on the carpet again.

And there you go, all the 5 tips for cleaning the carpet stairs in your house.

Conclusion

That’s all for the tips. Hope you find the article valuable. We hope that cleaning your carpeted stairs is going to be easier from now onwards.

All you have to do is follow the above-highlighted tips in a sequence manner and we promise you, your carpet will be as shiny as it was when you first bought it.
