6 Tips for Remodeling a Small Bathroom

Many households will have to make do with a small bathroom. With the right design tricks, however, having a small bathroom should no longer be considered as a negative thing.

There are many ways to go about making a small bathroom look and feel bigger than it truly is. To start, here are six of those sneaky yet effective small bathroom remodel tips.

1. Have a Walk-In Shower

This first design tip works if you have a tub that’s eating up space in your tight bathroom. Soaking in tubs is always a nice way to relax, and surely every homeowner dreams of having a tub. But it’s not always the best option for a small bathroom.

You may want to consider bidding your tub goodbye. Trade it with a walk-in shower instead, enclosed in glass. It’s more practical, and it’ll surely give you more room.

2. Bring in a Lot of Natural Light

There’s nothing that can make a space look and feel bigger than natural light. This is an easy fix. All you need to do is open up a wall for a big window. You can open up the windows during the day to bring the light in.

When you have a window, it’s not just light that you’re bringing in, but air, too. You can have a well-ventilated bathroom when air can go through. It won’t feel too hot and claustrophobic when you’re inside your small bathroom.

If your bathroom is on the top floor, try installing skylight roofing to go all out on natural light. You can opt for a translucent material if you’re a tad uneasy about having a see-through roof.

3. Get Creative with Storage

One of the challenges related to having a small bathroom is the obvious lack of space to store your toiletries. This shouldn’t be a problem if you’re alone or your family is small.

But, if it’s not the case, then you’ll have a lot of toiletries to keep. You need to be very creative with your storage system. Look no further, as that’s covered here too, with these small bathroom storage ideas:

  • Organize toiletries with baskets, so there’s a sense of order in your bathroom. Because your space is small, you want your toiletries well-arranged.
  • Use tall bathroom cabinets. This gives you more vertical space for more storage, without eating up a wide, horizontal space.
  • Hang basket shelves or hanging cabinets. Like tall bathroom cabinets, the hanging shelves allow you to make use of dead vertical space by putting it to better use.

4. Add Hooks for Towels

Towel bars eat up wall space. They’re best for bigger bathrooms. For smaller ones like yours, you’d do better with hooks for your towels.

This will give a sleek, cleaner, and more elegant look. You can also hang more towels on a line of towel hooks than on a towel bar.

5. Plan The Right Height for Your Sink

Planning your sink height is very important to still have that space under the sink to use for storage. The more you can store in there, the better. Doing this, however, entails being very specific in planning the space you’re allocating for your sink.

A good example would usually have your sink, at least, 32 to 34 inches off the floor. This is a comfortable enough height for brushing your teeth and washing your face, while still having enough space underneath for anything you need to store.

6. Choose High-End Tiles

Here’s an advantage when renovating a small bathroom: You can afford high-end tiles because there’s a smaller area to cover. This ensures your bathroom tiles will last long through all the wear and tear a bathroom gets.

Moreover, using high-end tiles also adds to the overall visual impact of your bathroom. Changing the tiles is a sure-fire way to make your bathroom look as good as new.

Final Thoughts

The tips above are only a few of the design ideas to make your small bathroom feel and look better. You can now finally maximize the space that you have without maxing out your budget.

Don’t let the lack of space stop you from having that bathroom you’ve always wanted to have. Trade your tub for a walk-in shower and your towel bar for hooks.

Make good use of natural light. Be creative with storage. Change your tiles. Soon after, you won’t feel cramped or uncomfortable in your small bathroom again.
