What Is Considered a Plumbing Emergency

While our plumbing usually works great, there can be instances when disaster strikes. When this happens, it’s important to know what qualifies as an emergency and what can wait.

Let’s look at when you may need to call an emergency plumber.

Burst Pipes

Burst pipes are one instance where you don’t want to wait to call a plumber. If it’s not dealt with quickly, you’re going to have a much bigger problem than just a leak on your hands.

Water damage can really wreak havoc on a home and compromise its structural integrity. The fast you find a plumber, the better the outcome will be.

You’re more likely to experience this emergency in the winter, but it’s a good idea to keep your eye on it at all times.

Low Pressure

If your water isn’t running out of the tap with as much pressure as it once was, this is a plumbing emergency. It can often indicate that there’s a clog, thus resulting in less water running through the pipes.

The sooner that you can get a plumber in to fix this, the better.

Toilet Overflow

An overflowing toilet is one of the more common plumbing problems , but it can definitely be an emergency. When a toilet overflows, it can be caused by many different things. It’s best to get on the phone with a local plumber right away rather than trying to diagnose the problem yourself.

However, in the meantime, it’s a good idea to cut off the water supply. You can do this on the back of your toilet, or shut off the supply in the main breaker.

This will stop the water from flowing and give the plumber the opportunity to fix it before it’s too late.

Clogs

There are many things that can clog up a drain, but there are ways to try and prevent it. Try to keep anything except for water from going down into the drain and pipes.

The more you can keep away from it, the less of a chance there is for the pipes to get clogged.

However, if you do end up with a clogged drain, you’ll need to call a plumber. They’ll be able to get to the bottom of it and unclog the pipes before any more damage is done.

Know When to Call an Emergency Plumber

Disaster can strike at any time when it comes to plumbing, and it’s important to be ready for it. If it’s not dealt with quickly, you can be dealing with more than just a plumbing issue.

Understanding when you need an emergency plumber can save you so much trouble down the line. It’s a good idea to have one saved in your list of emergency contacts.
