  6. Which Types of Garages Are Your Favorite?

At least 63% of American homes have a garage. While garages are particularly common in newly-built homes, you can also find them in homes 100 years and older.

A garage is meant to be a place to park a vehicle, but it’s become much more of a multipurpose space. They’re also a lifesaver in climates that get a lot of snow and cold weather.

What Are the Different Types of Garages That Exist Today

Whether you’re building a new home, looking to buy a home, or want to add a garage to your property, you need to know what types of garages you can choose from.

Read on to learn which garage design is right for you.

Attached Garage

One of the most popular garage designs is the attached garage. They’re convenient and blend into the overall design of your home.

The attached garages feature a direct door into your home. They make it easy to carry groceries inside during bad weather while also protecting your vehicle.

Detached Garage

The detached garage is a separate structure from your house. They’re usually at the end of a driveway behind the house.

If you’re looking to add a garage to an existing house, adding a detached garage is the cheaper option. It won’t affect your home’s architecture and they offer storage. But, they’re not as convenient as attached garages.

Garage with Living Space Above

Another type of garage is one with living space above it. These can either be built into the home or come as standalone garages.

These are a great way to add extra income to your monthly budget, as you can rent out this space. Just make sure to get the proper licenses and make sure it’s up to code.

Workshop Garage

You can also use your garage as a workshop. This is a common choice in homes with 2-stall garages. One stall can house the car while the other is a great space to organize tools.

Every functioning workshop needs a reliable floor coating. If you’re looking for one that can repel oils and withstand dropped tools, Garage Force is stronger epoxy than many other products on the market. It’s a hard coating that cures in a day and will protect your concrete.

Portico Garage

A portico garage bridges the gap between an attached and a detached garage. While it is close by, you can’t walk directly into your home from a portico garage.

Instead, you walk under a portico that’s outside to get to your home. This is cheaper to add to an existing home than a traditional attached garage, but you get the benefits of an attached garage.

Which Types of Garages Are Your Favorite?

With so many types of garages to choose from, which one is the best for your home? Each garage type offers its own benefits and convenience. Decide what your priorities are and keep them in mind.
