Securing your home from various forms of threat is possible when one can identify early on what kinds of threats can be prevented at the onset.

As much as we put effort to secure and protect our data and privacy, the same amount of effort is still essential in terms of our material belongings, such as our homes and belongings.

Additionally, there are also other ways to make your home a bit more secure, whether you’re on a tight budget or are willing to invest in your house’s security system.

In this day and age where threats are inevitable but are preventable, it is pertinent to every homeowner to put effort into safekeeping their valuables and loved ones.

Here are five different types of home alarm systems across different budgets:

1.  Customizable Smart Home Gadgets

Investing not just in a smart home doesn’t just make things more convenient and accessible. There are also features of a smart home, especially ones that allow for ecosystem control, that enable its owners to have more control over security and alarms.

Though it might be more costly, several reviews of these gadgets show that they are worth investing in and can also aid in applying for house insurance.

Some of these gadgets are also easy to install into your smart home and can be your sharpest motion detector–recording every single door that opens within the house up to motion sensors.

Other gadgets for smart homes are also more customizable to consider houses that have large pets without giving a false reading.

There are also gadgets that can also read changes in the thermostat, much like a heat sensor that you can access anytime through your primary gadget or mobile phone.

2.  Motion-Activated Lighting

For houses that have lawns, motion-activated lights surrounding the house can be a cheaper alternative to a smart home gadget. This allows people inside and even your neighbors to see if there are any movements on your lawn.

Additionally, if the budget is tighter, you can replace your current light fixtures to motion-detect without needing to do a full lights system renovation.

For light sleepers, however, this might take some getting used to, especially if sensors are too sensitive and can turn on with the movement of a small, friendly animal around your lawn.

3.  Glass-Break Sensor and Alarm

Much like the sensors installed around fire extinguishing devices, you can also install glass-break detectors on your windows and doors that can trigger a sounding alarm through the house. This classic alarm system is still as useful today as it has been over the past decade.

Additionally, some of these detectors’ sensitivity varies for your specific needs. There are sensors that can detect vibrations alone, while there are those that get triggered by actual breakage.

This can also be helpful in safekeeping specific objects within the house, such as prized art and jewelry.

4.  Electronic Locks

Electronic locks are the cheapest, convenient alarm system that one can invest in to secure a home. Not only does it give the option to be fully coded or combined with code-and-key, but it also automatically locks itself upon contact of closing.

This is also the same system that electronic vaults use, and having a vault within the house can also be a great help.

This means that you can be worry-free about people forgetting to lock the door upon leaving the house. For a fully coded alarm, also relieves you of the anxiety of people losing or forgetting their keys.

5.  Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV)

For a tight budget, one can combine the electronic lock with installing a Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) at home. If the lock does the prevention an alarm, the CCTV can allow for surveillance at the touch of one’s phone.

You can also install several CCTVs within the house, which is good for homes with children. You can closely check on them being at home safely if you install one in the baby room or in the playroom.

It works as both surveillance and even as a nanny cam for working parents.

The Importance of Home Security

At the end of the day, however, you are the most important detector of your home. You are the one who can detect what can possibly become a threat from your environment to your house, and thus, understanding your location and house structure enables you to be better at safekeeping your loved ones.

Securing one’s home is not just a practical practice for prevention but is also a safekeeping from anxiety and fear. It allows you to be present even when you’re physically not around, especially for those who work outside of their houses.

Getting an alarm system installed sooner is definitely better.
