In the past, people scoffed at prefab or modular houses as ugly, brittle, thin-walled monstrosities that you would only buy if you were lacking in money.

These days, however, prefabricated homes are well designed, high functioning, and viable housing options. For this reason, if you’re buying a piece of bare residential property, you might also consider buying a prefabricated home.

Wondering what modern prebuilt homes have to offer? Then read on! These are 7 benefits of buying a prefab house for your property!

The Benefits of Buying a Prefab House

Not only are prefab home viable housing options, but they actually excel in many areas. The benefits of prefab homes are as follows.

1. Assured Quality

One of the biggest benefits of prefab homes is that they come with assured quality. Because these homes go through the manufacturing process in factories, they undergo a thorough inspection before purchase. If a specific prefab home doesn’t meet its manufacturer’s standards, it won’t be made available to consumers.

Traditional homes, on the other hand, are built outside of a controlled environment. Not only can their construction be negatively affected by inexperienced contractors, but by inclement weather conditions as well.

In essence, if you want to be 100% sure that your new home will be flawless, you should go with a prefabricated model. Its assembly-line-style construction will ensure that its many components are up to snuff.

2. Environmentally Friendly Construction

Another benefit of prefab homes is that their construction is environmentally friendly. This is because the manufacture of prefab homes doesn’t include the wasting of any materials. If there are materials left over after manufacturing one home, the manufacturer will just use those materials for the next home.

This is in direct contrast to the construction of traditional homes. If there are materials left over after the construction of a traditional home, those materials are usually disposed of in a waste receptacle or dumpster.

It’s also important to mention that the assembly-line-style construction of prefab homes requires less energy usage than the segmented-style construction of traditional homes.

3. Rapid Build Time

Want your new house built as quickly as possible? If so, you should opt for a prefabricated home. These homes are mass manufactured, erected almost immediately after purchase.

While the erection of a traditional home has the potential to move rapidly, several factors could prevent it from doing so. These factors include planning mishaps, inclement weather, and contractor scheduling conflicts.

Generally, you can expect a prefabricated home to be erected in around half the time it would take to erect a traditional home.

4. Affordability

One of the big reasons that individuals opt for prefabricated homes over traditional homes is that they’re more affordable. While prices on prefab homes vary, you can usually expect to pay around 10% to 20% less on a prefab home than you would on a similarly-constructed traditional home.

Prefab homes are less expensive for a variety of different reasons. For one, because they’re pre-designed, they don’t include a design process.

Another reason is that they’re constructed in a stringent, mainlined, and cost-effective manner. The more money the manufacturer saves on the construction of the home, the less you’ll have to pay for it.

One last reason is that, because they don’t take as long to erect, prefab homes don’t require as much contractor time. The less time a contractor spends erecting the home, the less he or she will receive, and the less money you’ll have to pay overall.

5. Ideal for Remote Locations

Perhaps you’re building a home out in the sticks, far away from contractors and the equipment that they use to perform their jobs? If so, a prefabricated home might very well be the best option for you.

Because prefab homes are constructed in factories, and because they’re capable of being shipped essentially anywhere, they’re great for remote locations. While they require the help of construction workers, they generally don’t require as much help as do traditional homes.

This means that, while construction workers might have to drive far outside of city limits in order to erect a prefabricated home, they won’t have to do so for as long as they would for a traditional home. In fact, prefabricated homes are usually erected in months less than traditional homes.

6. Build to Code

In many municipalities, when a new house is built, it must pass an inspection to ensure that it meets government housing code. For some, this inspection can be a stressful time. After all, failing such an inspection would mean that you have to spend even more money on the home that you thought was already completed.

However, with a prefabricated home, there’s no need to stress. The manufacturers of these homes ensure that they’re built to code before leaving their respective factories. Therefore, there isn’t even a slight chance that they wouldn’t pass inspection.

7. Durability

You might have heard that prefab homes have durability issues, and, to an extent, this is the truth. However, in most cases, prefab homes are much more durable than most individuals realize.

While these homes are not timeless like traditionally built homes, they will usually thrive for the duration of a standard home mortgage.

This means that, even though they do have a shelf life, you should be able to pay them off before that shelf life hits its expiration date. Plus, with the maintenance of these homes being made easier thanks to the likes of Proto Homes, they’re fairly simple to keep in working order.

In essence, if you want your home to last forever, a prefabricated home is not for you. On the other hand, if you’re just looking for a place to live for the next few decades, a prefab home will serve you just fine.

Looking for More Home Design Information?

While buying a prefab house has its benefits, it’s certainly not the solution for everyone. If you’re looking for unique and individual home design, you’re not going to get it with a prefab home. You’ll have to build from scratch instead.
