It may seem like the age of reading is over, but the printed word is still thriving. Studies have shown that nearly 75% of Americans, roughly 225 million of us, have read at least one book in the past year.

Some of us read a lot more than that. The median of that same study was four books in a year, and the average was twelve.

Just as the amount of reading differs, so does style. Some of us read passages during our daily commute, or during lulls at the office. Others prefer to cuddle up in a special reading nook.

1. Art Deco

Art Deco harkens back to the designs of the 1920s and ’30s. This style looks like something out of The Great Gatsby because it is something out of The Great Gatsby.

The style is built on geometric shapes, mixed metals, and foreign influence. This was a time when Americans had money and wanted to show it off. It’s also where some of our lasting ideas of glitz and glam come from.

In terms of lighting, hanging lights are common. Whether you prefer bright light or the isolated comfort of dim lights, there are hanging lights to get it. You may want to go to Captain Electric to help install hanging lights.

2. Retro Sculptural Lighting

Sculptural lighting is lighting that is used as its own decoration. Retro sculptural lighting takes vintage or vintage-looking lights and makes them a design feature.

For instance, many go with Edison’s 1880 carbon filament bulb. For those who are more environmentally conscious, there are LED bulbs designed to look vintage.

When it comes to cozy lighting ideas, it’s hard to beat vintage lightbulbs. They’re warm without being too bright, making them the perfect lights to read by.

If the 1880s isn’t your style, you could try going with styles from the 1950s, or even go into the ’60s by adding neon lights.

3. Mid-century Modern

Mid-century modern takes design ideas from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and mixes them with modern influences. Sometimes, a single piece of old furniture or decoration can give a room the retro look.

In terms of lighting, this style can include anything from classic chandeliers, modern chandeliers, industrial pieces, and even desk-style lamps. Standing floor lamps can also be a feature.

Mid-century modern is a mixture of old and new, so there aren’t too many ways to do it wrong.

Cozy Lighting Ideas You Should  Try

There are a lot of cozy lighting ideas out there to help brighten up any reading nook. Which is best for you may depend on personal preferences.

We’ve mentioned only some options in the paragraphs above, but there are many more out there. We encourage you to do more research on your own if you’re interested.
