Many people consider rental dumpsters or skip bins for hire as the answer to bulk wastes. Homeowners could dump damaged, non-reusable furniture into them without a worry in the world.

Some even cast off old appliances, expired kitchen items, and old electronics into these containers when they spring clean. At the same time, businesses dump their industrial wastes on them as well.

Suppose you’re planning to hire a skip bin. In that case, here’s an article that talks about the dos and don’ts of using these containers if you want to know more about these gigantic rubbish bins.

Do: Tell the Type of Waste You’ll Throw Into the Bin

Make sure to declare the type of waste you’ll dispose of to the skip bin provider. Know that some companies don’t allow certain types of waste on their dumpsters.

Informing the provider with the type of garbage you’ll throw can let you avoid getting penalized with extra fees. Know that some wastes are difficult to dispose of, clean, and can be toxic.

For example, if you’re in Sydney and you have MCR skip bins, putting rubber tires, carpets, underlays, and mattresses on those bins will cost you extra. Some of the things that you typically shouldn’t put on rental dumpsters are the following:

  • Human and animal feces and refuse
  • Toxic and infectious waste, like oils and hospital trash
  • Hazardous or poisonous chemicals, such as asbestos and pesticides

Do: Group Your Garbage

Preferably, group your garbage according to types. The first reason is that there are several types of skip bins, each designed to accept specific waste groups. Second, you’ll make garbage collection more efficient and quicker.

For example, if you’re discarding your cardboards and cartons, you may dump them with wood-based fixtures and furniture.

On the other hand, throw your glasses, plates, saucers, and other fragile kitchen items together. Also, segregate concrete materials, plastic objects, and metal scraps.

Do: Pay Attention to the Bin’s Weight Restrictions

Generally, skip bins for green waste has a 330-pound (150-kilogram) weight restriction. If you’re discarding your garbage into this type of bin, you may consider taking note of the bin’s weight limit as well as your waste’s estimated weight.

Do: Pay Attention to the Bin’s Weight Restrictions

Remember, the provider may charge you extra if you get over the limit. If you don’t have time to weigh your garbage, you may want to consider getting a mixed waste bin instead. On it, you’re free to ditch how much you like.

Do: Stack Your Waste to Maximize Space

To get your money’s worth when you rent a skip bin, make sure that you manage your trash properly. Start with placing the heaviest, largest, and hardest waste materials at the bottom of the bin.

If you throw an appliance or furniture, make sure to disassemble them first to make them smaller. Lastly, distribute the smallest and lightest garbage in the different parts of the bins on top of the earlier placed wastes.

Also, if the topmost part of the garbage heap will be mostly light and soft waste materials like pillows and mattresses, consider setting aside some heavy waste and put them on top to compress your trash.

Do: Pack Your Waste Properly

Proper packing of waste is necessary to keep them intact. Do this to small bits of trash like pieces of paper and wood chunks and oversized garbage such as electronics and appliances.

This way, you’ll be sure that you’ll dump all the waste properly and accordingly, and no trash will be left behind.

Don’t: Throw Mixed Waste to Single Type Skip Bins

As mentioned, there are multiple types of skip bins. Before you get one, know what kind of waste you’ll need to dispose of. If you can sort all of your trash into one group, get a single type bin.

Don’t: Overfill a Skip Bin

Even if skip bins could hold a lot of waste, they still have limits. With this, you should avoid dumping more than it can hold. In addition, to prevent overfilling, you may try to dismantle fixtures and other significant objects so they would fit perfectly to all of the bin’s spaces.

This way, you can avoid extra fees and ensure that the people who’ll pick them up won’t make a mess on your property and the road.

Wrapping Up

Skip bins for hire are convenient if homeowners and companies need to immediately dispose of large amounts of waste.

Generally, they provide vast spaces, making them appropriate for large and heavy waste materials such as steel furniture or chunk of scrapped vehicles.

And if you want a hassle-free time when dealing with a rental skip bin, make sure to follow the dos and don’ts mentioned here. Of course, they’re not all-inclusive, but they’re the most crucial ones to follow.
