4 Fall Lawn Care Tips to Keep Your Lawn Looking Its Best

1. Fall Lawn Watering Tips

In the fall, lawns can become dry and brittle. To help your lawn stay healthy and vigorous during this time of year, follow these fall lawn watering tips:

  1. Start watering your lawn in the morning when the ground is still cool.
  2. Aim to water 1/3 of your lawn’s depth on most days, and increase the amount as needed based on rainfall levels.
  3. Wait until midday or later in the day to water your plants; doing so will help prevent runoff from occurring.

2. Fall Weed Control Tips

There is no doubt that weed control is essential to maintaining a healthy lawn in the fall. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Let’s call it a lawn renovation . Begin by inspecting your lawn for any sign of weed growth. If you notice any emerging weeds, now is the time to take action! Pull out the offending plants and work to eradicate them from your lawn.
  2. Apply a pre-emergent herbicide like glyphosate or dicamba before the first significant rain of the fall season. This will help prevent new weed growth from taking hold, and it will also kill existing weeds before they have a chance to flower and produce seed.
  3. Make sure to water your lawn regularly in the fall, especially during dry spells. This will help suppress weeds and keep them from growing too vigorously in the soil.

3. Fertilizer Suggestions

Fall is a great time to fertilize your lawn. There are many different types of fertilizer and rates that work well for lawns of all types. Try to use a fertilizer that has a balanced formula, one that contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.

Follow the directions on the product label carefully to get the best results. You can also add compost or organic matter to your soil to help boost its fertility in preparation for winter. If you’re not into doing the work yourself, have the specialist at Heroes Lawn Care do the work for you.

4. Winterizing Your Lawn

In preparation for winter, it is important to take some steps to protect your lawn from the cold weather. One of the most important things you can do is to winterize your lawn.

Winterizing means preparing your lawn for a colder climate by removing excess water, fertilizing less, and pruning back taller plants.

While you don’t need to do everything at once, taking a few simple steps will help make sure your lawn is in good shape for the winter.

By fertilizing less and watering only when necessary, you’ll avoid harming the grassroots and stop them from turning brown in cold weather. Pruning back taller plants will also help reduce moisture loss from the soil and keep the grass looking neat and tidy all winter long.
