Nowadays, every single home is equipped with one type of heating and cooling device or another, regardless of where it is that you are located.

Everyone wants to keep the temperature in their homes comfortable and they cannot do that without either heating or cooling the space, depending on the weather outside.

You would not agree on spending every single day in an uncomfortable temperature inside, which is why properly functioning HVAC systems are a necessity.

The emphasis here is on “properly functioning”. I am sure, though, that you have experienced certain problems with these devices at least once in your lifetime and I am sure that you know how uncomfortable and irritating that can be.

Most of the time, fortunately, those issues can be fixed easily, meaning that you will not need to be installing new devices the moment you notice a certain problem with your AC unit or your heating system.

Some of the issues that you will be faced with will absolutely require the attention of a professional. As you can see if you browse through https://www.climatemasterstl.com, there are various things that these professionals can help you with when your HVAC systems are in question.

I suppose, though, that you are perfectly aware of their expertise and that you know that they can help you in an instant should you start experiencing problems with your units.

Yet, you also know that their services come at a certain cost, and you are ready to pay, especially since those prices are usually quite reasonable.

The prices will, of course, differ from one place to another, but the point is that you will be able to find the services at completely reasonable costs. Here is a question for you, though.

Should you contact those professionals the moment you notice certain problems with these units, or should you try to fix things on your own?

While I am all for letting experts do what they do and not tampering around something you know nothing about, I have to say one thing.

Sometimes, there is absolutely no need for you to contact these experts, as there are certain issues you can fix even with minimum knowledge about HVAC units.

So, there is no need to pay for these services when you can, in fact, fix some things on your own. When the problems get more serious, though, you should always contact professionals. In any case, let me give you some DIY tips that could resolve your issues in an instant.

Check The Thermostat

Unsurprisingly, you should begin with the easiest of fixes here. If you find that your unit is not keeping you cool or warm enough, the very first thing you should do is check whether the thermostat settings are right.

I know that you might not have changed these settings on purpose for quite a while, but the truth is that they can sometimes get accidentally changed, in one way or another.

I suppose you do not want to call in the pros only to have them adjust the thermostat and get going. They will still charge you for their time if you do this, which is why you should do it on your own, as it is really nothing complicated.

Check The Breaker

If your HVAC unit stops working altogether suddenly and if it will not even turn on, then the thermostat is not the issue.

The inability to turn these devices on will certainly cause some panic and lead to you thinking that you need professional help right away.

While that can be the case, the truth is that something else might be causing the issue and that you might be able to quickly fix it all on your own without having to contact those experts.

In simple words, the breaker might have tripped. Go here to get some more AC repair, as well as maintenance tips.

Check The Breaker

Before you start dialing any numbers, you should check the breaker. Once again, you do not want those experts to charge you for something that you could have easily done on your own, by using nothing but your hand as a tool.

It is common for the breaker to trip, which is why you should always have this in mind and check it before deciding that you have a bigger problem on your hands. This is a quick and easy fix, and you can certainly do it alone.

Clean The Filters

Whenever a particular HVAC unit is not functioning efficiently and the thermostat is not the issue, you might find yourself thinking that there is absolutely nothing you can do about it and that hiring professionals is the only logical next step.

Yet, there is one thing that you can easily do on your own and that can turn out to be the perfect fix. I am referring to the fact that you can and should clean your filters regularly for your unit to continue working efficiently.

In addition to cleaning these with warm water, you might want to add a certain cleaning product to the mix and spray the filters with it.

This is because certain small particles will not be visible to the naked eye and that could clog those filters.

There are some cleaning products designed specifically for cleaning filters and HVAC units, but you can make do with what you have at home until you have bought those specific products. The bottom line is that the filters will need a good cleaning from time to time, and so will your entire unit.

Inspect The Ducts

If you feel comfortable with the idea, you could climb to your attic and inspect the ducts, to see if the air is even coming through them or if they might be clogged like your filters.

If the ducts are dirty, they will block the airflow, which will lead to inefficient functioning of your units. So, make sure to clean these as well.
