Heating Repairs You Can Do Before You Call Your Furnace Company

Doing major furnace repairs is never a good idea. You will not have the experience that a licensed HVAC tech has.

If you mess the wrong thing up, you could end up needing an entire furnace replacement. If you have a gas furnace, you could cause a gas leak, putting yourself and your family at risk.

It is always a good idea to call a professional instead of trying to repair the problem yourself.

However, if the repair is minor, you can repair your furnace yourself. You will need to keep in mind if anything goes over your head, you should refer to a professional like Hanover heating repair for your heating repairs.

What Can You Do When Your HVAC System Quits Working?

The email says from Star Air Conditioning & Heating company that there are several things that you can do to see why your furnace has quit working. These include:

  • Checking the Power

The first thing that you will want to do is to make sure that you are getting power to your unit. Check the circuit breaker or fuse box to ensure that the power is on and flowing to the furnace.

Sometimes, these breakers and fuses can go out, causing your furnace not to work. If you find this, simply replace the fuse, or turn the breaker back on.

If you continue to have a problem with the breaker or fuse going out, you may want to consult with an electrician to determine if there is an issue with your electrical supply.

  • Check your Thermostat

You will want to make sure that your thermostat is currently on heat. You will then want to make sure that you set the temperature at least five degrees warmer than it is in the room.

This will cause the heat to turn on. If the heat does not turn on, check the battery to see if it comes on.

If it still does not come on with a new battery, you have a bigger issue and should call Star Air Conditioning and Heating for a repair as soon as possible.

  • Check your Gas Line

If you have a gas furnace, you will want to check your gas line. Make sure that the gas line is turned on.

If the gas line is turned on, but you are still not getting heat, this could be an indication that something is wrong with your gas supply, like a regulator may have gone out.

If this is the case, you will want to call a professional HVAC tech that is well experienced with gas furnaces.

  • Cleaning your Vents and Duct

If your vents and ducts are clogged, it can be difficult for your furnace to heat your home well. This is due to the debris blocking the amount of airflow going out of the vents.

Not only can this cause a problem with your home being too cool, but it can also cause issues for your furnace. Improper airflow can cause a lot of breakdowns and the need for furnace repairs.

You can clean your vents yourself with a quality shop vacuum, but to ensure that the ducts are clean, you will need to get your ducts cleaned professionally.

A professional duct cleaner will be able to get all the debris from your entire duct line.

  • Pilot Light

If you have a boiler, you will want to make sure that your pilot light is on. Often, these pilot lights will be the culprit of you not having heat.

  • Change Your Furnace Filters

It is a good idea always to change your furnace filter at least every three months. More so if you have children, pets, or a lot of traffic in and out of your home.

The air filter will help to ensure that your air flows well and that you remove air pollutants from your system.

If you have inspected your furnace and tried the tips above, it should ensure that your unit is working correctly.

If you still need heating repairs, please call your local HVAC expert as soon as possible. You should never delay in these repairs as if they are left untreated, they can get worse and more expensive.
