Helpful Tips to Keep Your Rug Clean

A dependable routine is essential for busy people who wish to keep their rugs clean. Setting a cleaning routine and staying true to it can help to promote your rug’s health.

When setting this routine, you need to consider factors like the material and size of your rug. However, a general cleaning routine should include;

Your Rug Needs a Good Shaking

If yours is a small rug, maybe an area rug, giving it a good shaking can help get rid of accumulated dirt and dust.

However, this may be a problem if your rug is a large one. Smaller rugs are easy to fold up, take outside, and dust.

Dusting helps to remove the accumulated debris collected in the rug since the last cleaning.

For big but moveable rugs, you may need one or more helping hands to get the rug out.

Doing this will reduce the stress and amount of dirt you’ll deal with during the deep cleaning procedure.

Vacuum Regularly

As a busy person, setting a regular vacuuming routine can help to keep your home rug clean.

You can either set a routine for every night before bed or morning before work. Depending on the traffic, you can also vacuum your rug at 2 to 3 days intervals.

Regular vacuuming aims to make sure that dust and dirt do not settle deep into the rug fibers.

Address Stains Instantly

Wine or food spills are bound to happen at some point. When they happen, dealing with stains should be done immediately.

Many rug owners take the wrong approach to stain removal, and this may cause the stain to spread further.

A good way to address stains is to get a small washcloth, dip in a mixture of warm water and mild cleaning agent, and mop on the affected area.

Blotting stains is more effective compared to rigorous scrubbing of the affected area. Make sure to blot the affected area multiple times to get the stain off.

Deep Cleaning

Deep cleaning should be done at least once a year. Deep cleaning of your rug requires time, technique, and energy.

You should hire a rug cleaning company with the right tools, equipment, and expertise to address this need.

If you live alone, your deep cleaning needs may be limited to once a year. However, if you have kids or a large family around, you may need this service twice or quarterly.

If yours is a small rug, hand washing may be the best solution to deep clean it. For larger rugs, calling on professional rug cleaners is more appropriate.

Thoroughly Dry Your Rug

If you have ever spilled fluids on your rug and didn’t dry the area properly, you are familiar with the foul odor it gives off.

After deep cleaning your rug, make sure to dry it properly. For smaller rugs, squeeze water out and spread it under the sun for proper drying.

Without the heat of the sun, you can use indoor fans to get the job done.

Maintaining Your Indoor Rug

Cleaning your indoor rug is a good way to boost your indoor air quality and maintain a high level of hygiene.

A proper rug maintenance practice will ensure that you continue to get the best out of your rug at all times. Below are some tips on how you can maintain your indoor rug.

Invest in Quality Padding

Having a nice rug is not the end of the deal. You need to invest in quality padding to prevent direct contact between the floor and the rug.

Using quality padding will support the rug, enhance the feeling of comfort, reduce wear, and also extend the rug’s lifespan.

Rotate your Rug Regularly

The current placement of your rug exposes some areas to high traffic and some to low traffic.

To get the best out of your rug, it is best to rotate it at least once a year. This will keep your indoor space looking beautiful and also even out the traffic.

Re-Arrange Furniture Periodically

The direction of your furniture controls traffic. Rearranging your furniture from time to time breaks up the natural pathways and exposes new areas to foot traffic.
