Are you looking to move out of state? Perhaps even across the country?

If the pandemic has done one thing, it has shown more and more people the value of moving to a place they really love, instead of settling where they are now.

As of October 2020, 8.9 million people moved to a new home since the pandemic started, whether that was to be closer to family, for a new job, or to be in a place they enjoy.

If you’re looking for advice on how to move to another state, we got you covered.

The guide below will help you start your long-distance journey.

Visit Beforehand

This may seem obvious, but it’s important. If you’re looking to move states, you need to visit that new state before renting or buying property.

Sure, you can find a lot of information online, but you can’t find what space feels like to you or how it is in reality until you visit.

You need to visit and check out the housing you’re looking at and the surrounding area. Do you want to be on a quiet, peaceful road? Are you looking to be close to bars, restaurants, and grocery stores?

You can experience the feel of the town while also seeing what kinds of people you’ll be living around.

Update Paperwork and Bills

Make sure all of your paperwork and bills are in order. Request a permanent change of address on USPS.com a week or two before you move.

Update all of your insurance information. Update your driver’s license and registration. Change your address on all of your bills and credit cards to avoid missing any payments and accruing late fees.

Create and Stick to a Budget

When you move, it’s hard to stick to a budget. But the cheapest way to move out of state is accounting for every expense and then some.

Anything moving-related and living-related should go into it. Also, don’t forget to include any one-time expenses.

When you move out of state, there may be additional expenses that wouldn’t occur if you were moving locally, so account for those too.

To save money, remember to turn off any utilities before you leave, including gas, electricity, internet, and TV.

If the journey to your new state is a long one, consider canceling streaming subscriptions as well until you are settled in your new home.

Research Tons of Moving Companies

When considering how to move to a new state, the actual moving part may be your biggest concern.

Yet, it doesn’t have to be if you find the right moving company. Moving companies should be working to make your life easier, not harder.

Nothing is worse than a moving company that arrives late or stalls the process. This is especially true for long-distance moving companies.

Read tons of reviews from different moving companies, and make sure they are verified, like with this moving company.

If you can, talk to other customers that used the moving company. See how their experience actually went.

How to Move to Another State Successfully

Now you know how to move to another state successfully! Sure, there are other areas you need to think about, but if you’ve got the above in order, you’re well on your way!

Good luck with your move!
