5 Ideas for the Perfect Room for Your Baby

Making a baby’s room perfect can require planning, plenty of thought, and some considerable time. You certainly want to make the room perfect which makes it so much harder to decide on decor and furniture.

However, to try and make things a little simpler, here are five tips and ideas for decorating the perfect baby’s room.

How to Design a Perfect Baby Room

One practical way to begin is to think about all the ways the nursery will be used. Of course, the biggest use will be for your baby’s sleep time and rest. But they will also be changed there and will be fed, and they may even take their first steps in that room.

The baby clothing designer, Lydababy.com recommends dividing a nursery into areas for sleep, play, storage, etc. So, think about the positioning of the crib, where you will store your beautiful baby clothes, and where you can put a comfortable chair for yourself.

Write a list of all the items that must be in a nursery. Start with the crib, changing table, and other furniture and accessories. Having a basic layout frees you up to then look at the fun parts of decorating, and how your nursery will look.

1. Use Decals on the Walls

There are some good reasons for using wall decals in a baby’s nursery. They are an inexpensive way to add bold splashes of color, and they can be replaced as you grow tired of them.

2. Bold Wallpaper

Again, think bold and colorful when it comes to wallpaper. If you don’t like the idea of wallpaper, and many homeowners don’t these days, then you could consider painting a mural.

Many parents like the idea of pastels and muted colors, but babies lie stimulation and engagement. Bold and bright colors are far more engaging to a baby than pastel pinks and pale blues.

3. Choose Furniture That Lasts and is Practical

Firstly, make space in your plan to add a comfortable chair for you. You will no doubt spend a lot of time in this room including late at night.

Choosing tougher children’s furniture will mean it will last them as they grow older too. Look at changing tables that incorporate drawers too. Nurseries are best when they combine a great look with practicality.

Having a baby is an expensive time. So, when it comes to buying furniture, try and think how long it might last. Quality furniture can last for years, and as long as it doesn’t date badly you could find a use for it way down the line.

You may well be offered secondhand items from friends too which can help offset the cost of fitting out a nursery. Beware of old cribs, however. These may not meet current safety standards. The CPSC has strict guidelines on baby products such as cribs and also has a Safe to Sleep campaign to help with cribs and putting a baby to bed.

4. Stay Calm If Choosing a Theme

Choosing a theme for a nursery can be fun. Don’t expect your pre-teen to enjoy the Thomas the Tank Engine wallpaper you put up for them when they were a baby though. And this is the problem with themes, they age.

If you start with a relatively neutral base, you can then introduce items to build up a theme. This makes it easier to swap accessories and pieces later on to create a different look. If you go for a theme, then design for the future, not just for now.

5. Introduce Smart Technology for Sleep

Night lights are a popular choice for a baby’s room. Stars projecting onto a ceiling with a lullaby playing can help to calm a baby and send them off to sleep.

Many experts believe that total darkness is the key to a good night’s sleep for a baby. However, there are good reasons for having a night light including when you are trying to calm your baby in the early hours or when you have to give a midnight feed.

Smart versions of night lights incorporate many features and programs, and many will include a noise machine. This will typically have lullabies, natural sounds, and white noise. Different types of noise can affect people and babies in different ways. White noise can stop crying in babies as well as improve sleep.

Summary

There is no way of designing the perfect baby room from a guide as you will have a hundred ideas of your own that you want to implement. However, using a basic outline and plan can help you put together something you and your baby love.

The main key to creating a great nursery is to list everything you need, and then work out a basic floor plan with all the different zones you want. Once completed, you can start adding color, accessories, and your own creative ideas.
