Owning a home is something that most Americans strive to do one day. In fact, there’s little else that can provide the same satisfaction as knowing the house you live in is your own.

But, you’ll also be responsible for any maintenance the home needs, and it’s not always a straightforward job. Fixing roofing issues, for instance, requires a reputable contractor.

4 Important Roofing Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Contractor

Not everyone knows what kind of questions to ask someone before they hire them, though.

Not sure where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about what roofing questions to keep in mind.

1. Am I Able to See Your Past Projects?

One of the most important questions that you need to keep in mind is asking about your potential contractor’s past work. Not only will this give you an idea of the level of quality you can expect, but you’ll also be able to check they’ve worked on projects similar to yours before.

For example, you wouldn’t want to hire someone to complete a large roof replacement if they’ve only done minor repairs in the past.

2. How Long Have You Been Working in the Industry?

This question can seem a bit open-ended since there technically isn’t a ‘right’ answer that your contractor can give. In general, though, you’ll be taking a risk on someone who hasn’t been in the industry for very long.

While this isn’t to say that newer contractors can’t provide quality work, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to complete the job as efficiently as someone who’s done hundreds of projects just like yours.

3. What Happens If I’m Dissatisfied With the Work?

If a client is dissatisfied with the work that a contractor completed, it’s their job to make it right. This may involve making minor adjustments, additions, or replacing materials.

Regardless of what it entails, complete customer satisfaction should always be the goal. Some contractors won’t even require a form of payment until the homeowner deems the results are up to the standards they should be.

An Owens Corning preferred contractor is an example of what type of professional you should work with.

4. Are You Able to Provide a Written Estimate?

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon for contractors to quote one price over the phone or in-person yet charge another after the job is completed. You might also get charge for materials or labor that you didn’t know was going to be required.

A reputable contractor will always provide a written estimate that details everything that you’re going to pay for. They should also be more than willing to answer any questions that you have.

Asking the Right Roofing Questions Can Seem Difficult

But it doesn’t have to be.

With the above information in mind about what roofing questions you should ask, you’ll be well on your way to hiring the professional who’s best for you.
