Recent upticks in concerns about the ingredients of pesticides have caused many to look for more natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes. As the weather gets warmer, these flying pests come out ready to draw blood, bring the itch, and spread diseases.

Fortunately, you can fight back without a cure that’s worse than the disease.

Why Natural Ways to Get Rid of Mosquitoes

One reason you’re probably here looking for ways to get rid of mosquitoes naturally is that you’re aware of the toxic chemicals that go into pesticides. Many have traces of carcinogens, and you don’t want that around your family.

Natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes at home or outdoors allow you to enjoy your surroundings sting-free without worrying about what’s going into your body. That’s pretty cool. Let’s look at the five best ways of handling it without the cancer-causing “help.”

1. Use Beer and Alcohol

It doesn’t matter what kind of beer or alcohol we’re talking about, but you might want to err on the side of higher proofs. That’s because mosquitoes find the smell of alcoholic beverages repulsive to their tastes.

The good news is that you don’t even have to drink the stuff. Just leaving it out in the open will emit a strong enough punch to keep the little bloodsuckers at bay.

2. Try Dry Ice

Dry ice is a deceptive lure and one of the best possible natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes indoors. The dry ice, otherwise known as carbon dioxide, draws mosquitoes to it. From there, you’ll want to employ a bug-zapper or light trap, hung at about the same level as the dry ice, to make those mosquitoes wish they’d never met you.

3. Light Camphor

Camphor is a naturally occurring substance that stems from evergreen trees. You can’t get many more natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes in your house than that! The way to trigger it is to burn it, allowing the strong odor to act as a deterrent to mosquito activity.

4. Eat the Right Foods

While it’s not a natural mosquito killer, food is a very natural repellent, providing that you’re eating the right type. Look for foods that are high in vitamin B, as well as those like garlic and onions that emit strong odors. The only problem here is that other people might not want to be around you very much either, but that will depend on their tastes and preferences.

5. Consider Indoor Plants

Pennyroyal, citronella grass, and lavender are mosquito repellent indoor plants that have a good track record of driving mosquitoes crazy (and away from you). By extension, oils and candles made from or scented like these types of plants can be highly effective.

Follow These Steps to Solve Your Mosquito Problems for Good

While these are not the only natural ways to get rid of mosquitoes, we have found them to be the most effective. Put one or more of them to use during the warmer months, and treasure the difference.
