Having a greenhouse can be just the solution to all your plant and growing needs.

A lot of times, creating your garden at home can become hard when you live in a climate that doesn’t cater well to plants, or your apartment doesn’t have enough space for you to keep your plants outside and in the sun.

Here’s where portable greenhouses can come in really handy.

5 Things to Consider When Buying a Greenhouse

However, not every greenhouse is going to be a good fit for you and your circumstances.

That’s why we’re listing down all the factors you should keep in mind if you plan to buy the best portable greenhouse for yourself.

Size

The first thing to obviously remember is size. Portable greenhouses come in a variety of sizes, from small regular cardboard box sizes to ones that can be bigger than a mini-fridge.

Choose the suitable size depending on the amount of space you have available as well as the kind and number of plants that you plan to keep.

If you are a beginner, a small-sized greenhouse should be your starter. This will help you get acquainted with using a greenhouse and will have fewer steps as well.

However, for those who want a bigger set-up, you should get a grower set-up, which will allow you to plant a large number of seeds at once. Almost in a crop-like set-up.

Insulation

One of the primary reasons why people use greenhouses is the fact a lot of the time, people’s climates aren’t conducive for the growth of plants.

So, depending on the type of climate you are living in, choose the design of the greenhouse, particularly in terms of insulation.

If you live somewhere with harsh, strong winters, then it is best to opt for greenhouses with multi-layered polycarbonate, which keeps your plants well-insulated and safe.

Another material that you could opt for is thin polyethylene which provides similar protection but is more flexible.

On the other hand, if you do experience harsh winters and only light cold, regular tempered glass or just single-walled polycarbonate should do the trick and prove sufficient enough for the winds and weather.

Maintenance and Set-Up

Maintenance requirements are another thing that you should keep in mind. Portable greenhouses generally do not require enormous amounts of upkeep and maintenance.

However, some of them do come with extra design elements that may require frequent or more elaborate cleaning.

Bigger greenhouses will have more maintenance needs, and you will have to dedicate a significant amount of time towards their upkeep.

So, remember to factor this in while choosing the greenhouse that is most suitable for you.

Set-up is also something to keep in mind. If you have previous experience, it’s all well and good, but if you’re an amateur, it is best to go for simple designs.

Price

Of course, price becomes another crucial thing to factor in. Greenhouses come in a wide range of prices, from $80 to upwards of $300.

It can even range higher depending on how big you want it to be, or if you want to include certain customizations.

When it comes to price, it is always best to look through available options and evaluate your budget.

Create a budget for yourself that is comfortable, and yet has a bit of wiggle room for you to adjust in case a slightly higher-priced model comes along.

Don’t go out of your comfort zone and buy an expensive greenhouse that offers little utility and is largely bells and whistles, but hey, don’t be stingy either. Otherwise, your greenhouse will always be at risk of getting damaged.

Warranty

Last but not least, it is best to take a good check on the warranty policy. Warranty will ensure that in case your greenhouse does get damaged within a period, then the manufacturer will replace it, subject to certain terms and conditions of course.

Make sure that you carefully evaluate the warranty policy before you make your purchase, as a proper warranty can save you a world of pain and expenses later on.

On top of that, the warranty is also a marker of quality and is often a sign of good products.

Most reputed companies generally offer warranties anyway, so it isn’t much cause for concern.
