If you live somewhere that gets really hot in the summers, not only are you going to want to make sure that your home is equipped with an air conditioning system, but you’re also going to want to be very mindful about what elements you bring into the design and decor of your home as to not exacerbate the heat you’ll experience.

3 Tips for Decorating Your Home When You Live in A Hot Climate

To help you in doing this, here are three tips for decorating your home when you live in a hot climate.

Keep Your Linens Light

One thing that you’re always going to want to keep light in your home is your linens.

For some people, having blankets around the house and bedding when they sleep is vital. But if you’re going to easily get overheated due to the temperature outside, you’ll want to be sure that you choose light linens for all your needs.

On your beds, choose linens that are made out of lighter materials and have lighter colors, as that will help to reflect the heat away from you.

And if you love having a blanket to snuggle with when you’re sitting on the couch or in a comfortable chair, make sure you have thin, light blankets to choose from so that you can stay at a reasonable temperature.

Make Your Windows Available

The way that you place the furniture in your home should also be considered when you’re living in a hot climate.

Ideally, you should try to keep furniture away from your windows, if you can. This will help keep your furniture from sitting in the heat and light of the sun, which can make them both overheat easily and fade in color.

Additionally, by keeping your furniture clean from the windows, you can have space to open the windows up when the weather gets cooler at night. This can help to cool down your home and allow for a nice cross breeze to filter through your home.

Choose Flooring Carefully

In hot climates, the heat can feel like it’s all around you, beating down from the sun and coming up from the ground. Because of this, you’ll want to be careful about what flooring you choose in your home if heat is a concern.

While you might like the idea of having wood floors, wood often holds onto heat really well, which is the last thing you’ll want when trying to keep your home cool.

Rather than choosing wood floors, try to go with something like stone or tile, which will feel much cooler underfoot.

If you want your home to look and feel great while living in a hot climate, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make the right decor and design choices for this environment.
