How Much do Window Treatments Cost?

In short: it depends.

The cost of window treatments can run anywhere from $10 to well over $1K. That said, there are a few factors that can help you determine the final cost beforehand.

Here’s everything you need to know about the average cost of window treatments  and what can affect the overall price.

Different Types of Window Treatments

One of the most significant factors in determining the cost of your window treatments is the type of treatment you want to install. Here are a few of the most common types of window treatments, and what you could expect to pay for each kind.

Blinds

Blinds are one of the most popular types of window treatments, mostly due to their general affordability and ability to block out light.

While you can buy a perfectly good set of blinds for as little as $5, even the more high-end styles usually only run a few hundred dollars. That said, if you want custom or specialty blinds, even this cheaper option can skyrocket price-wise into the thousands.

Shutters

If you’re looking something like blinds, but a bit more substantial, than shutters are the right window treatment for you. That said, this option is usually a bit more expensive due to the hardware required to hang them.

If you decide to install shutters, you can expect the final price tag to be a couple hundred.

Shades

When it comes to the overall cost of window treatments, you cannot beat shades.

While shades don’t come with the versatility of some other styles, they can be highly effective at blocking out extra light and stylish. Price-wise, shades seldom cost more than $100 and can run as low as under $10.

Curtains

When it comes to interior design, curtains are generally the favorite due to the sheer number of options on the market today.

That said, curtains can be one of the more expensive window treatments. While there are cheaper curtain options available, on average, you can expect to pay upwards of $100 per panel.

Other Factors

While the type of window treatment you choose has a lot of sway over the final price, it’s not the only factor you need to consider. Here are a few other things that can affect the cost of your window treatments.

Size

It’s basic math. If you only need to cover one window, you’re not going to pay nearly as much as someone buying treatments that span an entire wall.

When choosing which window covering is right for you, don’t forget to keep in mind how much you’re going to need before making your final decision.

Materials and Quality

Generally speaking, the higher the quality of the treatment you’re buying, the more expensive it’s going to be. For example, say you want heavy-duty blackout curtains or wooden blinds.

In that case, you’re going to pay a fair amount more that you would by going with the standard single layer or metal versions.

All of that said, keep in mind that price does not always equal quality. Sometimes things that are expensive are worse.

Installation

Finally, the installation of your window treatment can also drastically affect the final cost.

If you wind up installing your new curtains or shades yourself, you can save a lot of cash. But, some window treatments require a professional touch, which could tack a couple $100 onto the overall cost.

Determining the Cost of Window Treatments

Now that you know how to figure out the cost of window treatments, it’s time to start shopping.
