What’s the hardest thing about having hard water?

While that might seem overly dramatic to folks who’ve always had soft water, keep in mind that hard water contains high amounts of calcium and magnesium. That means it can cause plumbing problems like clogs, reduced water flow, etc. It can also leave stains on faucets, tubs, showers, sinks, and so on.

For some homeowners, though, its most annoying disadvantage is how it leaves stains on glass surfaces. If you’re one of them, you might be wondering about the best glass stain removal method.

Lucky for you, there are tons of ways to remove hard water stains. Here are some glass cleaning methods that are worth giving a try.

1. Use an Acidic Cleaner

Basic stains, like hard water stains, respond well to acidic cleaners. These include liquid glass cleaners containing phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, and sulfuric acid.

Before using an acidic cleaner, be sure to test it on a small surface first. Since some commercial cleaners are too harsh (i.e., corrosive), you have to be careful when using them on your glass windows, drinking glasses, etc.

Remember, glass replacement can be expensive. You’re lucky if you only need glass repair, considering some companies truly excel in restoring broken glass items. Also, remember to use protective gear such as gloves and goggles when using an acidic cleaner.

2. Try a Magic Cleaner

Cleaning pads marketed as magic cleaners or magic erasers work well as a glass stain remover.

They also have the advantage of being gentle, which makes them ideal for spot cleaning. Don’t forget to wet the magic cleaner/eraser before using them to get the best results.

3. Get Salty

Don’t worry. There’s nothing that’ll make you feel irritated or resentful about this method.

You only need good old table salt. Mix it with water until paste forms, then use that to scour away the stains. Alternatively, you can combine salt with baking soda.

Use the resulting pasty mixture with a magic eraser to get rid of hard water stains completely.

4. Add Ammonia

For stubborn mineral deposits on glass surfaces, you can use a cup of ammonia diluted in a gallon of warm water.

You can also add ammonia to basic cleaning products. Doing this will double their effectiveness and help you clean your stained glass items faster.

5. Other Glass Stain Removal Methods

If you’re still looking for alternative ways to clean glass stains, you can try wet newspapers, vinegar, and lemons.

With wet newspapers, don’t forget to scrub gently, and for the vinegar method, it’s better not to use it neat. Always mix it with water, then pour it into a spray bottle.

To use your vinegar cleaner, spray the surface you need to clean and allow the liquid to sit for a few minutes. Wipe with a clean cloth, and voila, you have stain-free glassware.

Last but not least is lemons, which you can dilute or use as is. What’s great about this option is not only will you eliminate those hard-to-remove stains, but you’ll also be left with glass items that are lemony fresh.

Bye, Bye Glass Stains!

Now that you know some effective glass stain removal methods, you no longer need to worry about hard water stains.
