Did you know that a little over half of all homes in the United States have carpet as a flooring choice?

Although carpet is fading in popularity, it is still one of the most versatile and sturdy types of flooring you can install in your home or business.

A Brief Guide to the Different Types of Carpet

Are you interested in putting carpet in your home or updating your carpet? Here is a handy guide to the types of carpet, carpet styles, and how to choose the best carpet for your needs.

Cut Pile Carpets

There are two main types of carpet piles that you will encounter when carpet shopping.

Cut pile carpet means that the yarn tips in the material are trimmed at the top, not looped.

This means that cut piled carpet is often softer and plusher than its counterpart.

One of the potential drawbacks of cut pile carpet is that it can be more difficult to clean.

To clean it thoroughly, it may be a good idea to employ a professional carpet cleaning service, such as Avenger Services, LLC, to make sure that you lift all of the dirt and grime out of your cut pile carpet.

Loop Pile Carpets

Loop pile carpets are one of the more popular types of carpet pile for spaces that get more foot traffic.

Rather than the top of the loop is cut, the loops are left in place. This type of carpet is more durable and less likely to get major stains.

It is ideal for families with children or pets.

You can get loop pile carpeting in a level loop or multi-level loops. Multi-level loops are loops that have different heights, which can give the illusion of a cut pile carpet.

Loop pile carpets, however, lack the cushioned feel of cut pile carpets, which can be a drawback if you want a more textured feel.

Popular Carpet Fibers

Once you decide whether you want cut pile or loop pile carpeting, you need to look into different types of carpet fibers.

Nylon is one of the most durable choices out there. If you want a good carpet for your basement, garage, or other outdoor areas, you may want to go with olefin, which is resistant to mildew and mold.

For most indoor spaces in your home, wool carpeting may be the ideal choice. It is natural and eco-friendly, as well as fairly durable and resistant to stains.

However, you should consider the cost and maintenance of wool when you decide to install a carpet in your home.

Ultimately, the carpet fiber you choose should be reflective of your specific needs.

Know the Types of Carpet

If you are thinking about installing carpet, you should not have to stress out about which carpet will be best for your home.

With these types of carpets, you can find an option that works perfectly for your needs.
