When purchasing a new sofa for your home, you may be overwhelmed by the fabric options. Each material comes with its own attributes, and choosing the fabric that fits your lifestyle best is essential.

Ultimately, it boils down to two types of materials, natural versus synthetic fibers, and experts like the ones with Joybird customer service  can help determine which is best for you.

Natural Fibers

Natural fibers are called that because they are naturally sourced from plants and animals. A few common materials, such as linen, are considered elegant fabrics.

Linen is best in a home of adults only and a low-traffic home since it can wrinkle and stain easily. Silk is another fabric that is on the delicate side but is also incredibly soft. Because it is so fragile, a sofa made of silk should be in a formal area since it needs to be professionally cleaned.

On the other hand, wool is a natural, stain-resistant material that does not pill, wrinkle or fade quickly. It is also easy to clean and great for homes with families. Cotton and leather are other more durable and naturally sourced materials. Each would be able to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life.

Synthetic Fibers

On the other side, synthetic fibers are meant to imitate natural fibers and are great for their stain-resistant quality. For example, a couple of standard fabrics are polyester and nylon.

Polyester is usually a blend of other fibers to make a wrinkle and fade-resistant upholstery. At the same time, nylon is considered the strongest upholstery material. Going through resources like the Joybird reviews will show how strong nylon is as a fabric.

Other synthetic fibers include acrylic, which is excellent if you want something similar to wool. Olefin is another stain-resistant alternative, and vinyl is the best alternative to leather without spending too much.

Ultimately, choosing your perfect sofa fabric will depend on your lifestyle and how much you have to spend.
