Your Handbook to Help You Deal with Plumbing Needs

People often spend a considerable amount of money on professional plumbers for fixing a dripping faucet or an overflowing toilet.

Plumbing issues can be resolved by learning a few things and using simple tools to tackle small clogs and leaks.

So keep the following points in mind before hiring someone from Brisbane Plumbing to fix your issues.

  • Do Not Be Reluctant to Replace Parts Inside Your Toilet or Faucet

You can quickly try to repair the toilet’s flapper or faucet’s cartridge just with a little patience. Worn flappers are a common cause of leaks between the bowl and toilet tank.

They are also very cheap. And the package comes with easy to follow instructions for replacement. These days you can repair most modern faucets by just replacing the entire interior with a new cartridge.

Only by following the instructions on the package, you can quickly improve the plumbing without any professional help.

  • Remove Clogs Without Chemicals

If you see your drain clears slowly, avoid buying expensive chemicals to drain them. You can manually unclog the drain with the help of a drain snake.

All you have to do is insert the snake and pull it out with the culprit attached at the other end.

You can also use a dry/wet shop vacuum to suck out the clog if you want to avoid the hassle of using a snake.

  • Check Your Showerhead for Issues

Often, plumbers use thread tapes to fix the shower leaks. If it still leaks, you may try to unscrew the showerhead and then apply a new thread by wrapping in a clockwise direction.

Then reattach to stop the drip. In case the showerhead is clogged, you can soak it in a bowl of warm water and vinegar for an hour.

You can use a small brush to clean any mineral deposits that could block the showerhead.

  • Use Thread Tapes

Forget thread sealing compounds and start using thread tapes. Thread sealing compounds may smear and drip.

On the other hand, thread tapes are a better choice when it comes to healing drips. You can also buy multi-purpose tapes which usually come in white.

They are thicker and a better option for easier handling. When you wrap the tape, then roll it anti-clockwise around the threads.

Roughly doing this three to four times can help you solve the problem of dripping pipes.

  • Use Heat to Loosen Robust Water Pipe Fittings

If you face difficulty relaxing the trap under the sink or pipe fitting efficiently, use heat. Just by applying heat for a few seconds loosens up old solidified pipe dope.

The use of heat resistant material to protect nearby walls is necessary.

By following the above simple tricks, you can save the money you would have to pay a professional plumber. It also helps make you self-reliant when it comes to carrying out household plumbing tasks in case of an emergency.
