How To Save Money on Your Heating and Cooling Bill

Since your HVAC can account for a significant portion of your energy bills, it is important that you seek ways to make your system more efficient. There are many things you can do to lower your heating and cooling bill, both in the winter and summer.

While your heating and cooling system  will add to your energy bills, the costs don’t have to be out of control. From caulking and efficient thermostat settings to air filter changes, there are a few things that you can do to control cost. Let’s take a look at a few ways to save money on your heating and cooling bills.

Install Weatherstripping and Caulking

Weatherstripping is one of the most effective ways to seal leaks and keep the warm or cool air in. You can buy weatherstripping in a variety of materials, including foam, felt, and vinyl.

It’s usually applied around doors and windows but can also be used in other areas where air might leak, such as around electrical outlets and switch plates.

Caulking is another great way to seal leaks and stop air infiltration. It’s a sealant that comes in a tube and is applied to cracks and gaps in order to create a weathertight seal.

Caulking is available in a variety of colors and finishes to match your home’s décor. Both weatherstripping and caulking are relatively easy and inexpensive ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency, and they can save you a lot of money.

Set your Thermostat Properly

The best way to save money on your HVAC bill is to set your thermostat to the temperature that you actually need.

If you set it too low in the winter, you’ll end up having to crank it up to get warm, and if you set it too high in the summer, you’ll end up having to turn it down to cool down.

So instead of turning your thermostat up and down all the time, set it to the temperature that you actually need and let the thermostat do its job.

Set your Thermostat Properly

Another way to save money is to use a programmable thermostat. A programmable thermostat allows you to set different temperatures for different times of the day.

So you can set it to be a little warmer or cooler when you’re home and when you’re not home. This will help you save money on your heating and cooling bill without having to change the temperature all the time.

So if you want to save money on your energy bill, set your thermostat to the temperature that you actually need and use a programmable thermostat. These two tips will help you save money on your HVAC energy bill without having to change the temperature all the time.

Replace your Air Filter

Your HVAC air filter is responsible for filtering out allergens and other airborne particles that could cause respiratory issues in your home. Changing your air filter regularly will help prevent air quality issues and could also help lower your energy bills.

A clogged filter could cause your system to work harder and use more energy. A dirty air filter can increase your energy bill by up to 15 percent, while a clean filter can improve your system’s efficiency by up to 20 percent.

Replace your Air Filter

Most experts recommend replacing your air filter every three months, but you may need to do it more or less often, depending on things like the size of your home, the number of people living in your house, and the pets in your home. Changing your air filter is an easy and inexpensive way to lower your heating and cooling bill.

If you’re looking for ways to save money on your heating and cooling bill, plenty of options are available. By following these tips, you can save money on your energy bill and keep your home comfortable all year long.
