How to Update the Front of Your House

Landscaping is an art form that comes in many shapes, sizes, and budgets. For some homeowners, landscaping is simply adding fertilizer to a slightly browning lawn to bring it’s green color back.

For others, it’s about pulling out weeds to let the hedges be the star of the show. There are almost too many options available to update the front of your house making the process feel intimidating.

Keep in mind that your goal is to ultimately increase it’s sales value as explained here https://www.homesinmeridian.com/blog/increasing-selling-value-your-home/. Start with these simple steps to update your home’s exterior.

Pressure Wash

It’s a good idea to take a top-down approach which updating your home. People driving by are sure to notice the siding of your home well before they notice anything else.

If it’s not possible financially to replace worn siding, try pressure washing it instead. A good pressure washing removes mold and years of dirt hanging on to the sides of your house.

The result is a bright, fresh looking house. Depending on the condition of your siding, some homes might look as good as new after a good cleaning.

Paint

The next way to update the front of your house is to paint the exterior. This is a costly option that’s helpful when the siding just won’t wash clean.

Painting the exterior both gives your home a clean look and helps to modernize it. Choose paint colors that accentuate the architecture of your style of home.

For example, if you have a Cape Cod-style house, think dark greys and blues to bring in a New England coastal feel. You’ll give your home the look of new construction without investing in new exterior siding.

Manicure Your Lawn

Overgrown grass can’t be overlooked even against the most beautiful home. The least expensive thing you can do to update the front of your house is to cut the grass.

Once you’ve cut the grass, spray the area with a selective herbicide, or weed killer. The greener your grass looks from the street, the better the impression you’ll make on visitors.

Should You Update Your House?

There’s a pride in ownership that comes when you update the front of your house. A quick change to the height of your grass or after removing moldy siding makes you feel like you’ve made a great choice in where you should live.

But there are also financial bonuses like being able to ask a higher listing price when you sell. New homeowners imagine themselves buying a beautiful home that’ll look manicured forever.

Take the leap and invest in the home that’ll make you feel proud when you come home every day. For more information and tips, check our blog for updates.
