There are several different bay window styles and they all have their benefits. Choosing new windows for your home is all about considering what will look good and also function well because you don’t want your windows to be impractical, no matter how gorgeous they are.

Below, you’ll find 3 popular bay window styles to consider if you’re considering window replacement.

Box Bay Windows

Box bay windows have been around since the Victorian era when bay windows were popularised as magnificent architectural features.

Nowadays, it’s common to see box bay windows on the lower and upper levels of family homes. They get their name from their rectangular shape, with one protruding window at the front flanked by two at the sides, creating a box shape.

If you’re looking for a type of bay window that will look good while also being practical, the box style is perfect. The protruding rectangular design provides additional interior space and makes rooms look a lot larger.

You’ll also have light coming in from different directions and plenty of options for ventilation too. Even better, if you’ve got beautiful views outside, box bay windows will give you lots of scopes to admire them.

Canted Bay Windows

If you’re looking for another traditional bay window style, consider canted bay windows. They are fairly similar to box bay windows, but the two flanking windows are only angled slightly, so they don’t meet the middle window at a 90-degree angle.

The slight angling of the canted bay windows also provides lots of natural light and accentuates the end of a room, giving it the appearance of stretching even further out.

Typically, canted bay windows are found on the ground floor of a house and are a part of the original architecture. Because of the snug shape, they make excellent window seats, giving you a place to curl up comfortably and enjoy expansive views of the outdoors.

Each of the individual panels can be a separate window, giving you lots of access to fresh air throughout the day. Casement windows, for instance, look great in canted bay window frames.

Circle Bay Windows

They are less common than box and canted bay windows, but circle bay windows are also highly regarded for their beauty, which has seen them steadily grow in popularity over recent years.

As the name suggests, circle bay windows curve outward in a circular shape, rounding the end of the room. They typically consist of 4-6 casement windows, all aligned in a perfect arch. Circle bay windows can also be used as seating areas because they create extra space and make rooms feel a lot larger.

Most often, they are located on the upper levels of a house, so they don’t lead to patios like box bay windows can, but they do the same job of letting in lots of light and air when you open each of the individual windows. They have the same traditional look that bay windows are known for, but also work well when a modern twist is applied to them.

How to Choose the Right Bay Window Replacements

Window replacements are one of the biggest home renovation jobs because windows are so important to a house’s security, dryness ad insulation.

The windows that you choose also completely alter how the exterior of your home looks. Bay windows are a step up from other types because they also alter the interior of your home and completely transform what you do with the extra space that they provide.

Box bay windows are ideal for anyone who wants the traditional bay window look. They offer extra space, and lots of light from different angles and you can have them renovated to include patio doors downstairs.

However, if you want a similar look with a more subtle design, canted bay windows are great because they perform the same function and can also be used for additional seating space.

Circle bay windows are perfect for anyone who wants to put their own spin on an older look and their different shape gives them a unique edge over the box and canted styles.

Box, canted, and circle are 3 of the most popular bay window styles and they all have their benefits. If you’re currently budgeting for bay window replacements, take some time to consider all 3 and make the best choice for your home.
