5 Types of Windows You Should Buy for Your House

While most people go straight for either single-hung or double-hung windows, it’s always worth investigating other types of windows and how they could work better for your space.

Let’s take a look at some different windows for homes for you to consider!

1. Bay Windows

Bay windows protrude from the exterior wall to provide a living room or family room with extra light and space.

The bay features two angled windows on either side of a central single pane and is ideal for placing a love seat or creating a reading nook.

Due to the necessary structural changes, it involves, installing a bay window can be a more expensive and involved project.

2. Sliding Windows

Sliding windows open horizontally for quick and easy ventilation whenever you need it. They can work in any room of the house from bedrooms to kitchens thanks to their simple installation and reasonable price.

Sliding windows are a popular option since they’re ideal for bringing light into small spaces but also work well in larger, more open spaces.

3. Skylight Windows

If your home is lacking light, you don’t have to limit yourself to home window replacement options for your walls.

Skylights are a popular option for bringing ventilation into windowless bathrooms and for adding natural light to attic extensions.

One thing to bear in mind, however, is that skylights can be expensive as you may need to cover the cost of extra structural work as well as professional installation.

4. Casement Windows

Casement windows are hinged windows that you can open outward using a crank handle.

These are popular options for accessible areas of the home where you might need a little more fresh air from time to time, such as a bathroom or in the kitchen above the sink, for example.

5. Picture Windows

These are single-pane, oversized windows that you cannot open. As the name suggests, they’re perfect for creating an unobstructed, picture-perfect view of the outdoors.

This feature makes picture windows ideal for living rooms, dining rooms, or even kitchens that look out over serene landscapes such as distant mountains, forests, or even your backyard.

Different Types of Windows to Consider for Your Home

As this brief list shows, there are many more options when it comes to different types of windows than you may have realized.

And, while there’s nothing wrong with going for standard double-hung windows, you just might find that one of these less common options is the right choice for bringing light and ventilation into your home.
