When it comes to carpet cleaning, you can either contact the professionals or do it yourself. Textile flooring, while beautiful in its own right, accumulates dirt, dust, and debris quite easily.

Neglecting your carpet floors can lead to a whole host of issues like stubborn stains, unpleasant smells, and in the worst cases, mold/mildew growth.

Professional Carpet Cleaning vs. DIY – Which One is Better

If you want your carpets to look clean and beautiful, you have to give them a bit of TLC. In this article, we’ll be discussing the pros and cons of both professional carpet cleaning and DIY carpet care so you can make an informed decision.

Why Hire a Professional Carpet Cleaner

As you know, there’s more to carpet cleaning than just using a vacuum and it takes considerable work to remove deep-seated dirt and make your carpets look like new.

Most people have busy schedules and they simply cannot find the time to clean their carpets and if you’re one of those people, then hiring a professional carpet cleaner is a good idea like Perth carpet cleaning.

Pros of Hiring a Professional Carpet Cleaner:

  • Achieves a Better Clean

Carpet cleaning technicians know pretty much everything about cleaning carpets. They undergo a rigorous training program where they learn a variety of methods/techniques on how to tackle different kinds of stains.

Regardless of how tough the stains are, they can make quick work of removing them by using specially formulated shampoos and chemicals to achieve a better, high-quality clean.

  • Advanced Cleaning Equipment

Professional carpet cleaners use commercial-grade steam cleaners that not only clean your carpet but sanitize them as well.

You may not know it, but there are thousands of microorganisms living in your carpets such as dust mites, fungi, and even mold/mildew spores.

These microorganisms can be easily eliminated with the use of advanced carpet cleaning equipment.

  • They’re Fully Insured

In the unfortunate event that the technicians break something while cleaning your carpets, you don’t have to worry because they’re fully insured and the damaged/broken items will be replaced.

  • Convenience

Part of the joy of hiring a professional carpet cleaner is that you get to sit back, relax, and just watch them do all of the work for you. This frees up your time to do other things like enjoy the weekends and spend quality time with friends/family.

Cons of Hiring a Professional Carpet Cleaner:

  • Poor Cleaning Results

While hiring a professional carpet cleaner may seem like the most obvious choice, there’s no guarantee that your carpet will look 100% spotless.

This is especially true when you hire a technician from a run-of-the-mill company. Don’t be tempted at cheap prices and always do your research before hiring a carpet cleaning technician.

  • Risk of Breaking Items/valuables

Sure the technicians are insured, but the risk of breaking valuable items like expensive porcelain and fine china are still there.

If you don’t want to take that risk, then going DIY with your carpet cleaning may seem like a better idea.

Why Go DIY on Your Carpet Cleaning

There are plenty of reasons why you should go DIY on your carpet cleaning. If you’re up for the task, then you can definitely achieve a level of cleanliness that’s as close to what the professionals can do. Here are a few points to consider when cleaning your carpets.

Pros of DIY Carpet Cleaning

  • It’s Much Cheaper

The average rate for a carpet cleaning technician is around $35 – $40/hr. If you have a sizable home with plenty of textile flooring, you may find the service to be a bit expensive.

By doing it on your own, you can potentially save hundreds of dollars and use that money to invest in high-quality carpet cleaning equipment instead.

  • You Can Use Readily Available Home Products

You don’t need special cleaning chemicals to address tough stains. Natural ingredients like baking soda and vinegar work wonderfully in addressing stubborn spots in your carpet.

Baking soda helps deodorize your carpet while vinegar breaks down tough stains and makes them easier to remove.

  • You Can Perform Spot Cleaning

Sometimes, even the best carpet cleaning service technician can miss out on spots and stains that only you are aware of. You can make your carpet last longer by addressing these hidden spots and performing spot cleaning on your own.

Cons of DIY Carpet Cleaning

  • Potentially Damage Your Carpet

If you don’t know what you’re doing, you can potentially do more harm to your carpet than good. It’s a good idea to test out an inconspicuous area of your carpet before using any chemicals/cleaners on more visible areas to ensure the products won’t affect the carpet negatively.

  • Can Be Time-consuming

Cleaning your carpets can take a lot of work, especially if you have pets around the house. The combination of pet dander and pet urine can make carpet cleaning a tedious job.

Not to mention that you will have to steam-clean your carpets after vacuuming to sanitize them and reduce the number of microorganisms present in the carpet fibers.

So, Which One is Better?

It all comes down to personal preference. If you have the right tools and equipment to clean your carpets, then you can definitely do it on your own. But if you want your carpets to look like brand new, we would recommend contacting a professional carpet cleaner.

It’s more convenient and is probably the better choice if you want to prolong the lifespan of your textile flooring. Make sure to weigh your options and choose the one that best suits your needs/budget.

For me it is better to hire a professional cleaner for carpets. It’s quite expensive but it’s worth the price if you find the perfect cleaning company for your carpets.

I have to say professional cleaners. It’s not to say you can’t clean them yourself, it’s just a tradeoff of time and energy. I prefer to pay the pros to take the stress off my shoulders and free up my time. And of course we offer the same benefit to our customers, even though most of them are able to DIY no problem.
