10 Reasons Why You Need to Contact a Roofer

Sometimes, your roof may have minor issues, which may not require the services of professionals.

In some cases, you can just install new flashing or make a patch. Without further ado, let’s talk about 10 reasons you may want to contact a roofer.

Roof Age

If your roof is 20 years old, you may want to inspect it from all angles from time to time. For proper inspection, there is no substitute for a professional. Most of these service providers will perform an inspection free of charge.

The life of your roof depends on the type of material it is made from. For instance, if it has asphalt shingles, it may be good for up to 30 years, according to the reports from the National Association of Home Inspectors.

If the age of your proof is more than 30 years, you may need to have it repaired even if it looks in tip-top condition from the ground.

Curled or Buckled Shingles

You should take a closer look at the shingles to find out if they are buckled or curled. Generally, shingles tend to buckle or curl due to excessive heat, moisture, or aging. If you notice that the shingles are bulging, it’s time to call roofing professionals.

Curled shingles are another major problem. In this case, the edges of the shingles turn up or they appear concave. Both of these issues will be easily noticeable and may require the services of a qualified contractor.

Roof Valleys

A roof valley refers to a v-shaped channel that is formed at the meeting point of two roofs. If you have a tile roof, you may have to replace these valleys as they begin crowding over time. In the fall, roof valleys continue to trap leaves, which may lead to corrosion.

So, if you find a corroded roof valley, you should call a professional for proper inspection. They may recommend the best approach to solve your problem.

Missing Shingles

Strong winds in spring may result in a lot of shingles missing from your roof. The moment the underside of these roof shingles is exposed to strong winds, the roofing nails won’t be able to hold the shingles in place.

In this case, you don’t have to go for a roof replacement. Instead, a roof patch will be more than enough to solve this problem.

Chimney Flashing

Chimney leaks may cause a lot of problems. Therefore, you may want to have your leaky chimney repaired as soon as possible.

In most cases, faulty flashing is the real culprit. The purpose of the flashing is to ensure that there is a water-tight connection between your roof and chimney.

With the passage of time, the efficacy of the flashing will continue to decrease. You may want to call a professional and get it replaced as soon as you can.

Granule Loss

As your roof gets older, your asphalt shingles may have some granule loss as part of wear and tear.

However, if you have a granular loss even if your roof has just been replaced and you can find loose mineral granules in gutters, you should call a roofing professional for a complete inspection.

Daylight Streaming in Your Attic

If you have an attack in your home, you should take a closer look at the roof boards for daylight streaming. Besides, you should inspect the insulation for any signs of moisture.

If the insulation shows signs of moisture, you have a serious problem to deal with. In this case, you have no choice but to call a professional roofer .

Cracked Shingles

Defective product and thermal splitting may cause asphalt shingles to crack. If you find that some of the shingles are cracked, you may want to call a professional. You should replace cracked shingles as soon as possible to maintain the integrity of your roof.

Worn-Out Roof

If your roof has signs of aging, you may want to get it replaced before you find some of the shingles cracked or missing.

Damaged Sealant

On the underside of shingles, the sealant helps keep them in place. As shingles get older, the sealant may not maintain a grip on the shingles.

As a result, strong winds may cause further damage to the shingles. And this process may cause roof leakage with the passage of time.
