Less than 1% of bats contract rabies, but this doesn’t mean bats are safe. Humans can contract several diseases from just being around these small flying mammals.

With airborne illnesses such as COVID-19 at the forefront of our concerns, there’s no better time than the present to ensure your family is breathing the cleanest air possible.

  1. Bats Flying around Your Home

One of the most obvious signs of a bat infestation are bats flying around your home. If you consistently see bats flying about at sunset or sunrise, then chances are they’re living in your home.

Bats are nocturnal creatures, so they’re waking up and heading out in the evenings and then coming home to rest in the mornings.

  1. Strange Noises

A house infested with bats is going to have some strange sounds going on. Listen for high pitched squeaks. If you hear the bats, it’s best to not attempt bat infestation removal on your own.

Most DIY methods aren’t effective and only serve to make the bats angry and more determined to stay. Whether you have brown bats or any other kind of bat, contact professional exterminators to help you locate the source of the strange bat noises in your home.

  1. Scent of Ammonia

It’s one thing if you’ve recently cleaned with ammonia, then the scent should be expected. However, if you find yourself smelling ammonia and you haven’t recently cleaned with it, then it could be from bats.

Bat droppings carry this smell, and if it’s permeated your home, you have an infestation. This is especially worrisome since humans can contract several diseases from breathing the contaminated spores that float through the air with the ammonia smell.

  1. Unidentifiable Odors

Sometimes, it isn’t ammonia that you smell. If you find yourself noticing odd or new smells that you can’t locate the source of, then it could be bats.

  1. Grease Stained Holes

If bats are living in your home, then there’s an entry point that they are coming and going from. This becomes the bat’s “front door” to their new home. As the bats move through the hole, it will become coated with a greasy black resin type of substance.

Walk around the outside of your home and look for signs of this entry point. Now you know where you need to seal up your home once you have the infestation addressed. Do not seal the hole and think this will solve the infestation problem.

  1. Bat Droppings

An obvious sign of a bat infestation is the actual droppings. Venture up into your attic and take a look at the floor. If several bats are living in your home, then the droppings will build up quickly.

Address Your Bat Infestation

If you notice these signs in your home, then you may have a bat infestation problem. Do not wait or try to take care of the problem yourself. The best thing you can do is higher a professional to have the bats removed.
