Have you checked the roof lately? Keeping an eye on your roof is a critical part of taking good care of your home. While replacing the roof can feel like a big project, ignoring signs of wear or damage can be an expensive problem down the road.

Knowing when to look into a new roof helps homeowners protect their property and maintain good property values.

3 Signs It’s Time for a New Roof

What are the signs that you need a new roof? Keep reading to learn about three of the most crucial indications that it’s time to call a roofing company.

1. You See Daylight

Checking your roof starts inside—in your attic. It’s difficult to find gaps, holes, or cracks when inspecting a roof outside from the ground or on a ladder. However, starting inside with an attic inspection can quickly reveal problem areas with your roof.

While in the attic, if you see daylight coming through the ceiling, the roof has holes and weak spots. Look for water stains or evidence of rodents to confirm gaps exist in your roofing system.

At the first sign of daylight, call a roofing professional like A Roof Above LLC. They can provide a closer and complete inspection of your roof and deliver repairs or a replacement.

2. Crooked or Cracked Shingles

You don’t have to climb on the roof to recognize shingles that are in bad shape. From the safety of the ground, look for shingles that are crooked, out of place, missing, or cracked. If you see curling or cupping shingles, those issues affect your roof’s reliability, as well.

Damaged or misplaced shingles can’t do their job to help water flow away from your home. When water seeps into the cracks and gaps created by missing or dislodged shingles, your home experiences water damage in the roof, walls, and ceilings.

3. Age

Have you replaced the roof since you bought the home? Depending on how long you’ve been in the house, your roof could simply be too old to keep protecting your house well.

Even with a quality roof installation with the best new roofing materials, a roof doesn’t last forever.

Aside from signs of wear-and-tear and age, check the paperwork on the roof. Many shingle roofs need replacing after fifteen years. Other types of roofing can last longer, depending on where you live and weather conditions.

If you’ve been in your house for several years, can’t find the roofing warranties or paperwork, and you’ve never replaced the roof, it might be time to consider new roof installation.

An end-of-life roof will show signs of wear, including bald shingles, gaps, loose flashing, and moss or plant growth.

Don’t Delay When You Need a New Roof

Replacing the roof can be expensive, but it’s a worthy investment in your home. A new roof helps protect your home and belongings!

Work with reputable contractors and compare a new roof estimate with multiple companies to find the best solution for your home and budget.
