Are you building a home or revamping your current home’s exterior? If so, then there’s no doubt that you’ve been faced with the agonizing decision of trying to decide which material you need to use for your new siding.

Two of the most popular options on the market are stucco and brick. Done right, both of these can produce long-lasting, aesthetically-pleasing home exteriors that will work well for your home.

But deciding between the two is the challenge. In this article, we’ll pit stucco vs brick to help you understand the differences between the two so that you are better equipped to make the right decision for your home.

Aesthetics

When it comes to the aesthetics of your home, exterior home finishes are key. They are the first thing that you’ll see when you turn into the driveway of your home. Thus, no matter what decision you end up making, you need to choose a material that suits your desired aesthetic.

Brick and stucco result in very different aesthetics, but both can look great when done right. Stucco presents more of a modern feel and works well when paired with light tones. Brick, on the other hand, preserves a more old-style feel for your home. The winner of this category depends on your personal preferences.

Modern trends generally point in the direction of minimal, light colors. So if you want your home to fit in with those trends, then stucco might be the right choice for you.

Cost

One of the most significant considerations, whenever you’re evaluating a home improvement project, is cost. In this category, there is a clear winner.

Stucco is generally more expensive than brick because it’s more difficult to produce. Stucco is made of sand, cement, and water and is a little more complicated to produce than regular brick is. However, the cost difference is not significant.

Remember not to think in the short-term when evaluating cost. If you have a clear preference between a stucco veneer and brick, then remember that this is the material you’ll be looking at for years to come.

Durability

When it comes to durability, both brick and stucco have similar levels of durability. Both siding materials are applied with the use of mortar and grout (use a professional service like Professional Plastering Inc. for installation). As a result, both are susceptible to moisture.

If you live in an area that has a high-moisture climate, then you may want to step away from both of these veneer choices. After all, the last thing you want to do is re-hire a company to fix your veneer only a few years after you apply it.

Stucco vs. Brick — Which is Right for You?

Now that you know the details in the stucco vs brick battle, you should be far better equipped to make a choice regarding which material is right for your home’s decorative exterior.
