Diagnosing HVAC Issues

The first step to HVAC repair is to understand how your unit works and diagnosing issues. Is your system making funny noises? Is there an issue with airflow?

There are things that will be noticeable to anyone, such as ice forming around lines and coils. An increase in energy bills is another sign that you have an issue with your heating and cooling system.

You’ll also want to note when the filters were changed and the age of your system.

Older systems may have to be completely replaced because of the costs to repair them outweigh the benefits. You may spend $3000 now to fix the unit, but your unit may last another year or two.

Rebalancing Your Unit

Sometimes, your HVAC unit just needs to be rebalanced. You can usually tell when a system is off because one room will be a few degrees colder than the other.

Keeping your unit balanced keeps the air flowing evenly throughout the entire home. You can experiment with the airflow by closing and opening vents in different rooms.

To completely rebalance your HVAC system, you need specialized equipment. That’s when you need to call in professionals to take care of the job.

Keeping the HVAC Maintained

Your heat and air system need consistent maintenance. That makes the system last longer. You can also identify issues before they become big, expensive problems.

You’ll want to keep a maintenance checklist  handy and schedule regular maintenance when the seasons change.

There are things you can do yourself. Changing filters, checking thermostats and clearing leaves from the HVAC unit are all projects that you can take on yourself.

Call in the Pros

There will be times when you have no choice but to call in the HVAC experts. When a repair goes beyond replacing filters and clearing debris around the unit, you’re going to need experts to look at the HVAC system.

A company like Americare Heat & Air would be able to repair the unit and help you maintain it.

Heat and Air Repair Tips

Heat and air systems are complicated. You can do simple things to maintain and repair the system, but most work is going to have to be left to professionals.

If you are experiencing issues, you can take the time to diagnose them. If you find that a problem is beyond your knowledge, call in the experts. They’ll be able to help you take care of the issue and educate you on maintaining your unit.
