But buying a new refrigerator can be an expensive and difficult experience. This handy refrigerator buying guide should give you all the insights you need to make the right purchase.

Figure out Your Priorities

With today’s expanding technology, there are now a lot of available refrigerator options. Choosing the right one can be overwhelming.

You might think you need a lot of gadgets to match your smart home, but understanding your kitchen’s needs is the first step to making the right choice.

Take a look at your kitchen’s layout and determine where your new refrigerator will go. You may want to keep it in the same place as your previous fridge, or you might find a more desirable spot.

Make sure to measure the space and take note of which way the doors of the refrigerator and freezer would need to open.

Be Mindful of Energy Costs

A lot of new refrigerators keep energy usage in mind in their models. Look for refrigerators that allow you to keep track of how much energy you’re using.

With old refrigerators, frost buildup  adds to the amount of energy used to power the unit. When looking to get a new refrigerator, opt for features that let you control the temperature in different compartments.

Doing so lets you have more control over your food and save energy.

Choose a Layout

Depending on the space, you may look into a top and bottom opening fridge, a side-by-side combination, or perhaps a built into your cabinet fridge.

If you’re looking to hide your fridge within the look of your cabinets, you may want to check out this appliance installation company.

With an increase in frozen food at grocery stores, side-by-side styles are gaining popularity. This lets you split half your storage space in the freezer and half in the refrigerator.

However, if you often make large portions or cater to friends and family, storing leftovers or containers may be difficult in the limited horizontal space.

The classic top-and-down style is great for families who might store treats in the freezer. If your freezer is at the bottom, it might make it easier for kids to reach for the ice cream. But it may also let you load heavier frozen items closer to the ground.

If you want to dispense water and ice from your appliance, look for models that have a built-in dispenser.

The Ultimate Refrigerator Buying Guide

Choosing a refrigerator ultimately depends on your lifestyle and your kitchen’s layout. Following this refrigerator buying guide while shopping for a new fridge will help you make the right choice.
