It is designed to purify all the water coming into your house, unlike under sink water filters , which only purify water meant for drinking and cooking.

A whole house filter should be installed at the point of entry where water from your water source comes into your house.

The water filter would be linked to your existing plumbing pipe, and if the right linking point cannot be found, your plumber can tee off a small section of the existing line to create room for your filter.

How to Install a Whole House Water Filter

While it is advisable that you seek the help of a professional to install a whole house water filter in your home, you could also decide to go the DIY route if that’s your style.

The installation of these kinds of filters is generally similar, the differences are usually reflected in the way they work and what they filter.

These being mentioned, here are the guidelines to install a whole house water filter:

  • It is important to choose a location that is close to the main supply water entry point.
  • Turn off water from the main water supply and leave the tap on to release the pressure.
  • Cut off the pipe and install a new shut-off valve. You may need an adapter on each side of the filter to secure the connection on both sides of the filter.
  • Slide on the compression ring and put the nut into a firm and tight connection.
  • Turn back the water to check if there are any leaks and tighten the connection if there are any.
  • A copper jumper cable may be required if a grounded wire is installed in your water supply.
  • Congratulations, you just installed a whole house water filter.

Maintenance of Whole House Water Filters

Without proper care and maintenance, your water filter will become less effective in decontaminating your home water supply.

●  Cleaning Routine

Cleaning the inside of your water filter regularly is a great way to maintain its effectiveness and durability. This prevents the build-up of impurities. This should not be done without consulting the manual or seeking expert guidance.

●  Filter Cartridges

Filter cartridges are the heart of water filters. They should be regularly replaced. Some filters would indicate when the cartridge needs to be replaced.

However, a filter cartridge should last between 6 and 12 months. The case may be different if your water is high in impurities.

Benefits of Whole House Water Filter

  • Cost-effective: Using a water filter is much cheaper than buying bottled water. The real cost of bottled water is the environmental damage caused by plastic bottles.
  • Purifies water: it grants your household access to clean and healthy water.
  • Reduces Plumbing maintenance: Impure water can cause you to spend more on water pipes, as the impurities can clog and damage your pipes.
  • Protects pipes from corrosion: When sediment piles up in your pipe, it reduces the water pressure and catalyzes the corrosion process. A whole house water filter sieves the water before it can get to your pipe.
  • Protects your health: A water filter protects you from impure water, which can cause serious health problems and death in some cases. Drinking wholesome water strengthens your physical and mental health.
  • Water filters are durable if properly maintained and require less maintenance.

A whole house water filter protects your household from unclean water. It ensures that the water in every tap and shower in your house has the same quality. With proper maintenance, you can enjoy the benefit of clean water for a longer period of time.
