As the time to choose your degree comes, many prospective students realize that making a choice that will have so much influence on the rest of their lives is not an easy task.

Far from comparing the pros and cons of each degree (since there are thousands of available degrees), choosing the course of your studies demands a more hands-on approach.

Furthermore, to decide which degree is the best for you, you need to know very well what your strengths and weaknesses are and how you can use them for long-term benefit.

Choosing the Right Degree

Choosing the right degree should ideally be a result of several months of thinking and consulting. Many future college students even decide to go for advising and let professionals assess their aptitudes.

This gives great results, of course, but not many have the time to spare. Still, knowing yourself and being able to visualize yourself in a couple of years’ time does not take that much time.

Furthermore, being able to do a quick elimination test on the degrees available in your area will also help. This way, you will not bother yourself too much with all the degrees out there but will be able to boil them down to two dozen or so that you actually know you would be comfortable studying for.

As this reduces the degrees to consider, you are more likely to spend less time deciding and more time preparing for your desired degree.

Choosing the Right Design Degree

Let’s imagine now that you are a bit of an artistic soul and that you would like to study design as there are so many design degrees to choose from, the headache intensifies.

But no worries, everybody manages to make the right choice, and barely ever do you see college students actually switching their degrees. Making sure you actually get into your desired degree program is a whole different thing.

To make sure you get into the best college that offers your design degree, you should be able to make the right choice, to know the college, and write a persuasive cover letter to include with your design college application.

There are cheap writing services reviews online that can help you with this issue. As there is only one application chance per semester, you could choose to have professionals write about you.

Make sure that the instructions are clear and that they include everything that you yourself would say. Ensure also that you have enough time to revise the cover letter and make any changes you see fit.

Which Design Degree Should You Choose

There is a multitude of design degrees to choose from. As you go from one college degree listing to another, the list expands. There are, however, several universals offered at almost any college and university.

To be able to make the right choice, you should know whether you are more comfortable with colors, shapes, and textures or with machines, systems, and abstraction. Once you know that, read on to find out about the ten most popular design degrees.

Architecture

Architecture is one of the first things that comes to your mind when you hear the word design. The incredible work of Zaha Hadid resonates through generations of architects and shapes the minds of those like you.

Designing buildings and public spaces are, indeed, the dream of many, as we all admire the beautiful architecture and famous buildings are among the first places we visit wherever we travel.

Interior Design

Interior design is the next most popular degree you can pursue. Being able to match colors, shapes, textures, and lighting for a uniform and jaw-dropping effect is something that many cannot do. So, if you think these are the waters you would like to navigate, congratulations, add courage to the list of your pros.

Landscape Design

Landscape design is often overlooked during design school applications. Many are driven away by the thought of dirt and soil, as well as insects and bad weather.

However, landscape design is so much more than that. Being able to design gardens and parks gives the fourth dimension to your design: that of time, as gardens change their looks with each passing season. The recent boom in floral design online schools also testifies to the need for landscape designers.

The perks include working in the fresh air with flowers and trees, as well as getting to let your creative spark in unimagined ways.

Fashion Design

Fashion design mostly relates to clothes and footwear. However, jewelry design, accessory design, and being able to match colors and textures also come to mind. Choose fashion design if you love fashion channels or always notice that new dress your best friend loves to wear.

Graphic Design

Graphic design is a newly rediscovered field. In the world of entrepreneurs, the need for stylish and simple logos, memorandums, and backdrops was never bigger. If you are good friends with your tablet and stylus, this is the degree for you.

Scenic Design

The scenic design includes designing scenes for movie sets, theater sets, and, more recently, backdrops for social media influencers. Combining the elements of landscape and interior design, this branch of design is gaining in popularity as the audience increases.

Being able to come up with unique scenes and sets means that you will be recognized and cherished, as uniqueness is, unfortunately, what many people lack.

Final Considerations

After a long journey or researching and choosing your appropriate degree, you can finally relax. With your cover letter on the way to the admission office, your hopes and dreams can only expand as you go from a senior high to college.

The best thing is that if you’ve followed through on our advice on which design degree to choose, you will be on your way to the best experience of your life.

Michael Carr

Michael Carr comes from a bilingual family. This is why he firmly believes that a multidisciplinary and systematic approach can solve any problem. In his free time, he enjoys reading and watching movies.
