1. Sustainability

One of the most prominent trends in 2019 is a sustainable approach to design. Finding timeless pieces, that are ethically and well-made is important to the sustainable mindset.

Avoid purchasing pieces that will just be thrown out in a few years. Be patient, and find pieces that you absolutely love. Save up for pieces that will last, and that will make you happy for years to come.

2. Natural Finishes

Another big trend is organic, natural finishes. You may have noticed that natural wood is making a comeback.

Wood, along with stone, plants, and lots of natural light are all-natural elements that are being worked more and more into the design of a space.

These natural elements help bring balance to modern, and otherwise lifeless spaces.

3. Bright Colors

Gone are the days of tone-on-tone gray or all-white everything. The simplistic Scandinavian style has really taken over the last couple of years. It was pretty and the monochrome color scheme made it simple to style and interchange pieces.

The problem with the Scandinavian style is after a while, it really all starts to look the same. People are starting to reach for more color again. In 2019, people are breathing life back into their spaces with bright colors.

There is no better way to add contrast and personality than with bright and colorful pieces.

4. Florals

Florals are also making a comeback this year. What better way to add life to a room than by adding natural elements, like floral prints, into your design?

This classic is back to add a feminine touch to any room.

5. Jewel Tones

Jewel tones have been on the rise and they aren’t going anywhere. They add a pop of color with a moody twist.

These beautiful deep colors really know how to steal the show, and would be a great addition to any space.

6. Handmade Pieces

This one is a mix of sustainability and natural finishes that were mentioned earlier. Materials like jute, rice paper, and clay have been growing in popularity.

From jute rugs to rice paper light fixtures, these handcrafted pieces are subtle but beautiful. Their purpose isn’t to make a bold statement but to bring warmth and life to your space.

7. Four-Poster Bed

Nothing makes a statement like a four-poster bed. If you have a large bedroom space to fill, a four-poster bed is your answer. It’s substantial and cozy.

So much of your style can shine through with this statement piece. Bold and powerful, this is a great way to add some serious comfort and style to your bedroom.

8. Softer-Lines and Finishings

In 2018, you saw a lot of hard and straight lines in furniture. In 2019, people are going back to softer lines and shapes. This isn’t a complete return to the pre-modern era, but it will be a mix of the two.

You will see a lot of modern furniture with a classic twist. These will be beautiful timeless pieces that can add some subtle personality to your space.

9. Acrylic

Acrylic is bold and beautiful without being loud. It adds structure without distracting the eye from the main focus of the room.

Acrylic pieces can be easily added to almost any room. From coffee tables to chairs, acrylic isn’t going anywhere for a while.

A great styling tip is to layer them with organic pieces to add texture without feeling busy.

10. Comfort

Comfort and style can coexist! In fact, they should coexist. Don’t sacrifice comfort for the sake of saving money or style.

Instead, save for the piece you really want. Tying into sustainability, save for the piece so comfortable and beautiful, that you won’t want to get rid of it for years to come.

It’s better to spend the money on something you love once than having to repurchase the piece over and over again because you kept buying the cheaper version.

11. Antiques

If one thing rings true in 2019, is that people are returning to a more original approach to style. By the end of 2018, everything started to look the same.

People are starting to add more of their personalities into their spaces through antique pieces. Adding antiques is a great way to add one-of-a-kind pieces to a room. They help keep your space original to you!

From antique rugs to furniture, finding these pieces is now easier than ever with the internet.

12. Velvet

Velvet has also made a huge comeback in 2018, and it’s not going anywhere soon. It’s a no-brainer as to why. Who doesn’t want to sink into a plush, soft couch or chair?

Velvet adds sophistication to any room. Mix velvet with jewel tones and you can elevate your space even more. Look for pieces that have modern silhouettes to help balance this old classic with a fresher look.

Other Ways to Update

If you’re really looking to refresh your house and make it feel like new, other important updates to consider are your bathrooms, kitchen, and even your roof. All of these things will help add to an updated aesthetic. Learn more here!
