Orangeries are usually more expensive than conservatories. This is because orangeries are more expensive to construct and take longer to construct than conservatories.
Conservatories are primarily constructed with glass units and have a brick base. As orangeries are constructed with bricks, this means they are more expensive to construct than conservatories. Upgrading a conservatory with a solid roof or installing a conservatory with a solid roof is a highly popular option as it can essentially convert the conservatory to an extension.
Solid roofs also contain layers of insulation, meaning the temperature issue in your conservatory can be tackled. Solid conservatory roof also provides an interior appearance of an extension, meaning there is more room for interior design. This is shy solid conservatory roofs are the cheaper option for having a home extension.
Orangeries can also be upgraded to replace the roof with a tiled roof, however, the differences in temperature will not be that noticeable.
By upgrading a glass orangery roof to a tiled conservatory roof, your orangery will then become an extension. What differentiates an orangery from an extension is the glass roof at the top of the surrounding windows. By removing one of these properties, the orangery then becomes a home extension.
