HVAC Maintenance Begins With the Filter

Your furnace has a filter that keeps particulates from entering the furnace and being burned but also allows for free airflow. The air filter is inexpensive, but many people forget to replace it before winter.

The filter collects dust and other particulates, but it gets clogged over time. This causes the furnace to work harder to get airflow and shortens its life span. It can overwork the motor, but the filter is an essential component.

Without it, the particulates can get into the furnace and burned, which can cause a bad smell, or get into the furnace parts and cause them to fail.

Yearly Check-Up Keeps Furnace in Peak Condition

A certified HVAC maintenance company such as Davison Heating and Cooling can come and look at your furnace and get it ready for winter. It’s a good idea to get yearly HVAC servicing to catch problems before they become serious, and get your HVAC cleaned and inspected before winter hits.

Your furnace works hard during the winter and time can cause problems that you don’t notice until it’s too late. It’s best to get maintenance done in the fall or early winter when you’re not in vital need of your furnace.

They can catch problems early before it’s a major financial hassle or in the dead of winter.

Seal Leaks Around the Home

Your HVAC system works hard throughout the winter and you need to make it as easy as possible to heat your home. Leaks in windows and doorways can cause heated air to escape or bring cold air into the house.

This causes the furnace to work harder because the temperature drops faster. Seal the leaks to keep the warm air in and give your furnace a break.

Make Sure the Thermostat Works

Your thermostat controls the furnace, so it must work properly. Before the winter gets too cold, test the thermostat and make sure it causes the furnace to kick in and make warm air comes out of the vents.

If the thermostat isn’t working, then install new batteries. If it’s still not working, then call in a professional to fix the problem.

Stay Warm This Winter

Proper HVAC maintenance can make sure your family is warm and safe this winter. Follow these tips and keep your HVAC system working during even the coldest winter days.
