On the other hand, some home projects are just not created for DIY. These are jobs around the house that need no less than professional knowledge and expertise, or the results could be disastrous.

In any case, let’s straighten things out with three home projects that you can absolutely DIY to your heart’s content and two that you should never, for the life of you, dabble with your amateur limitations. Shall we start?

DIY Home Projects

Refinishing Furniture

If you have some old furniture that’s looking a little worse for wear, you can easily refinish it yourself. You can even save some money while still getting a great result if you take the time to prep the piece properly.

You’ll also have all the opportunity to squeeze those creative juices out, such as by adding your own signature stamp on your couch. Maybe drape a boho scarf over the headrest or perhaps a skull knit if that’s your style. That’s why it’s called DIY.

Repainting Your Walls

You won’t believe what a fresh coat of paint can do to your home. Unless your walls are severely damaged, this is a job you can do well on your own. Forget those overpriced and overrated home remodels you see on TV.

You won’t need a lot of expertise, and you can pretty much finish it in a weekend! But you have to really want to do this before you even start.

Some people get so excited at first and lose steam eventually because of the repetitive actions that come with the project. So before you start it, commit to it.

Landscaping

Sprucing up your landscaping is another great home project to DIY. You can do simple things like trimming shrubs and pulling weeds, or even more involved projects like planting flowers and trees.

Even heard of the term, “green thumb?” They say you need to have it to prosper with anything gardening. If you’ve always felt that you have a way with plants—and you’re looking for an enjoyable way to get regular exercise—then landscaping is for you.

Professional Home Projects

Electrical Work

Electricity is dangerous and if something goes wrong, it could be costly or even deadly. There’s a reason an electrician goes through a lot of schooling, practical training, and exams before they get their license and certifications. By DIY’ing electrical projects, you won’t only be putting your property at risk but even your own family.

Plumbing

Plumbing is a complex system of pipes and fixtures, and one wrong move can cause a big problem. What happens if you mess up your plumbing?

From sinks that don’t train to toilets backing up to contaminated drinking water, you wouldn’t even want to get started. Like electrical jobs, plumbing is only for the experts, period.

Setting It Straight

It can be tempting to do DIY home projects, especially with the economic impact of the pandemic. We all just want to save a few bucks.

But there are some areas in our home where we just can’t make compromises. So DIY what you can, but keep the non-negotiable jobs where they belong – to the pros. Did you find this article helpful? Check out the rest of our blogs!
