How to Clean New Marble Countertops

Many people are unsure how to take care of their marble countertops when they first get them. Marble countertops are actually easy to clean. For some people, this is why they choose to install marble countertops.

It is important to buy a marble countertop cleaner. This cleaner is designed to be used on delicate marble so it will not harm the surface. There are plenty of options available and they are easy to find at home improvement stores, online, and big box stores.

If you do not want to buy a marble countertop cleaner, you can use a mild, non-acidic soap mixed with water.

When deciding how you want to clean your marble countertops, you should avoid lemon juice and vinegar. Any acidic substances can cause damage to your marble countertops. No matter what you use on your marble countertops, make sure it is non-abrasive and non-acidic.

In a spray bottle, mix a little bit of dish soap with warm water. Then, spray it on the marble countertops. Scrub the countertops gently. Then, you can use a wet cloth to remove the soapy residue. Make sure you dry the countertops with a soft towel afterward.

To find the best sealant for marble countertops, you can visit Mr. Stone. It is important to know about marble countertops and how to properly care for them.

How to Seal Marble Countertops

You can seal your marble countertops to help repel staining agents. Keep in mind that sealing your marble countertops does not make them entirely stainproof. It is best to talk to the company that installed your countertops to find the right sealant for your needs. This will provide extra protection.

To know when to re-seal your countertops, you should look to see whether water droplets are beading. If they are not, it is time for a fresh re-seal.

How to Prevent Marble Countertop Damage

The best way to preserve your marble countertops is to take good care of them. If you do this, you can prevent major damage.

Be aware of substances that can ruin your marble countertops. For example, citrus, vinegar, and tomato can etch marble if they sit on the counter for too long. Other substances, such as coffee, soda, and fruit juice can be damaging as well. If a substance is acidic, there is a good chance it will cause damage.

To make sure this does not cause any damage, you should not let these types of substances sit. As soon as you spill anything on your marble countertops, be sure to wipe it up. You should also protect the marble by using cutting boards, trivets, placemats, and coasters. The goal is to create a barrier between the countertop and any damaging substances, such as hot dishes.

If you have children, make sure you clean up anything that spills on the marble countertops immediately. If they are old enough to clean up after themselves, make sure they know how to do so appropriately to protect your countertops.

How to Remove Marble Countertop Stains

Sometimes, you might not be quick enough to clean up a substance before it stains the surface. Different stains require different removal techniques. When removing stains from marble, be cautious and make sure you follow directions. You cannot use most cleaning products on marble countertops.

If the stain is oil-based, you should use a liquid cleanser or detergent to remove it. If the stain is organic, 12% hydrogen peroxide and a couple of drops of ammonia will help. If you have water stains, try using dry steel wool.

Marble is Heat-Resistant, But You Should be Careful

One of the reasons that some people install marble countertops is because they are heat-resistant. There are many other great reasons that people choose to add marble countertops to their homes as well.

Even though marble countertops are heat-resistant, you should still protect them from heat. In a pinch, it will not be a big problem to place a hot pot on marble. You should be aware that a hot pot or pan can cause discoloration or burning. This can leave a mark that is impossible to remove.

For this reason, you should use a potholder. This small change can make a big difference in the appearance of your marble countertops.

Brightening Your Marble Countertops

If your marble countertops look dull or dirty, you can shine them up easily. You should use a poultice to the countertop. A good option is a paste-like cleaning agent made from baking soda.

You should apply the substance to your entire countertop with a thickness of ¼ to ½ inch. Using a spatula is a good way to get an even application. Then, you can cover the countertops with plastic wrap. You may need to tape the wrap down with painter’s tape.

Let the wrap sit for 24-48 hours. Make sure the paste has had a chance to dry out. Then, remove the paste with a scraper. Do not use a metal scraper. To be safe, use a plastic or wooden scraper.

Conclusion

Marble countertops can be a great addition to your home. They make a beautiful accent in many homes. It is important to take excellent care of them from the beginning. This ensures that the countertops stay in good shape for years to come. If you do not take good care of marble countertops, they may not last long.

Be sure to follow any guidelines for cleaning and maintaining your marble countertops. You should not use any regular cleaner on your new countertops. They require gentler options to help them to hold up over time.
