Have a Focal Point

Alright, so this first tip is true for any room in the home. When you first enter the bathroom, you want one aspect to act as the focal point and catch your eye right away. Otherwise, you won’t know where to look first, and the room can appear flat or uninspired. Your tub, shower, or vanity are all great focal points. You could also choose an ornate mirror or a piece of artwork.

However, make sure your toilet doesn’t accidentally become the focal point because this is usually the most unattractive part of the bathroom. When designing your layout, make sure you position the toilet further back into the room or tuck it behind a privacy wall.

Think About Your Colors

Do you think light or neutral colors are your only options when it comes to painting your bathroom? The truth is, even small bathrooms can look amazing with a darker, richer color. Decide what you want the atmosphere of your bathroom to feel like.

Do you want something soft and relaxing? Fun and flirty? Chic and luxurious? Since colors are known to bring out certain emotions, you should choose your bathroom color based on how you want to feel while you’re in it. For example, if you want to create a relaxing bathroom, consider light blues, violets, and creams.

Don’t Be Afraid to Splurge

If you’re on a tight budget, you may feel the need to cut back wherever you can. But since bathrooms are typically small, you can make a huge impact by splurging a bit. Start with your focal point. Since this will be the first thing people see when they walk in, you want it to make a good impression.

If you’re using a bathtub, shower, or vanity as your focal point, don’t forget to invest in some nice fixtures, like those sold at Serenity Bath Boutique . If you have extra money in your budget, consider upgrading where you can. Opting for a nicer countertop or a tasteful tile ribbon in your shower can make a huge difference.

Consider Shower Storage

Does your shower feel cluttered? Do you struggle to find a convenient spot to keep your shampoo and body wash? While built-in shower shelves work well, you can take this one step further by creating a shower niche. Unlike regular shelves that stick out, a shower niche is carved into the wall. Not only will it be more convenient, but it’ll look better too.

Add Luxurious Details

The luxurious details you choose to add is what will really help your bathroom stand out. This is where you can add your own unique touch and create a bathroom that meets your needs.

If you live in an area that has cold winters, consider installing heated floors or a heated towel rail.

If you like taking relaxing baths, why not install a TV or fireplace to help all that stress melt away?

Of course, not all luxurious elements have to be extras. If you don’t have the money to install a TV or fireplace, you can opt for wood floors or a steam shower. It’ll make your bathroom look and feel like a spa, and it’s more cost-effective if you have to buy flooring and a new shower during your renovation anyway.

Be Realistic with Your Space

Do you dream of a bathroom complete with a spacious shower, soaker tub, and double vanity? If your bathroom is on the small side, you probably won’t be able to fit all three of these things. If you try, your bathroom could very easily end up looking cramped and cluttered.

Instead, you want to be realistic with the space you have. Make sure you have enough room to walk around and that giant vanity isn’t cutting into your direct path from one end of the bathroom to the other.

Focus on Lighting

For many people, lighting ends up being an afterthought. But it makes such a huge impact in your bathroom, so be sure to choose carefully. You’ll want a lighting solution that is bright and adequately lights up the entire room. If you like taking relaxing baths, you may want to consider installing a dimmer switch so you can enjoy some soft lighting.

If you do your makeup in the bathroom, another option is to install special makeup lighting around the mirror. Typically, this lighting will be warm and natural, rather than the harsh lighting typically used in the bathroom.

Don’t Be Afraid of Patterns

Are you looking for the perfect way to add interest to your bathroom? Bold patterns can look great, even in small bathrooms. In fact, a big pattern like thick stripes can actually make the room look bigger! Consider adding an accent wall with waterproof wallpaper. This can also act as your focal point, so consider placing the wallpaper behind your vanity to really make a statement.

How to Design a Bathroom You’ll Love

Don’t just settle for any old boring bathroom design. Just follow the tips above to learn how you can design a bathroom you’ll truly love. From including a focal point to using patterns, there are plenty of ways you can make a statement. Are you ready to start your bathroom renovation? Then check out these tips to prepare for the demolition phase.
