Getting enough sleep is critical for a healthy and happy lifestyle. You may dream every night about purchasing a luxury car or houseboat, but you’ll only be able to have those fantasies if you can fall asleep.

Thankfully, sleep research has come a long way in recent years. Before, they were still researching the best food to eat before you go to bed. Now, they finally had their picks on the best mattresses you can buy depending on your needs.

But you surely have realized that memory foam and hybrid are two terms that crop up the most if you are looking for a new mattress. A perfect example is a great Number bed mattress and an iSense bed mattress.

However, these characteristics can leave more questions than answers if you’re not knowledgeable about mattress terminology. Both of them sound comfortable, but which is better for you? Here is a short overview regarding the two varieties and their unique characteristics of mattresses.

What Is a Hybrid Mattress?

A hybrid is a support structure that combines two or more separate support systems. Hybrid mattresses can feel like the ultimate experience for some sleepers. That is the point. The appropriately called hybrid mattress aims to combine old and new-school technologies.

To provide you a pleasant night’s sleep, a combination of foam layers and a traditional innerspring is used. You’ll receive the proven and tested support and hardness of conventional foam layers, all the while experiencing the classic bounce on the mattress with the help of the innerspring coils.

Pocket coil springs are present in almost every hybrid mattress you can find. Pocket coils are springs that are individually wrapped in a cloth sleeve. When sleeping with a mate, each pocket reacts to pressure individually, which can help with movement.

Because the inner coil springs are connected, any movement on one side of your mattress will affect the entire bed.

Unique Features of a Hybrid Mattress

If you enjoy nighttime activities requiring a mattress with more bounce and rhythm, memory foam may not be your best option. Still, you’re probably looking for that pleasant encasing foam effect, and hybrid mattresses provide a happy medium.

A hybrid mattress has the same embracing feel as a traditional mattress, but it also has a more romantic innerspring bounce. In general, hybrid mattresses have more firmness options than memory foam mattresses.

Even though memory foam mattresses have improved in terms of cooling technology, hybrid mattresses frequently allow you to breathe more freely, so if you get hot when sleeping, this may be the better option for you.

One of the classical complaints about a mattress is that you get stuck with a spindle, which isn’t exactly comfortable when you want to sleep.

The coils are typically closed under soft memory foam layers that help the mattress seem more consistent and uniform with a hybrid. Hybrids usually also tend to have more “edge support,” meaning the structural integrity of the mattress perimeter.

What Is a Memory Foam Mattress?

You’ve probably heard friends rave about memory foam mattresses in the last few years, especially if they’ve had back problems or have had trouble aligning their spine. NASA researchers in the 1960s first developed memory foam to improve aircraft cushioning.

Since then, it has become a popular material found in everything from hospitals to sneakers. It has recently gained popularity for its application in high-end mattresses.

That’s because memory foam provides a unique amount of support for your body, assisting in spinal alignment and embracing your body in any sleep position.

The classic memory foam commercials show someone pressing their hand into the mattress to leave a disappearing handprint, which is an excellent visual representation. Unlike regular spring mattresses, memory foam contours your body, providing a form of back shock absorption that keeps you comfortable throughout the night.

This is accomplished by using layers of memory foam with varying densities and textures to offer support.

Memory foam mattresses were very simple in form and construction when they first appeared on the scene, but they have now evolved into something much more complicated and, well, mattress-like.

They still rely on a person’s body heat to provide that enveloping, contouring effect, so search for a mattress with cooling foam layers to avoid overheating. The best memory foam mattresses also contain responsive foam layers that provide natural bounce, or else they don’t feel like beds at all.

Unique Features of a Memory Foam Mattress

One of the most well-known features of a memory foam mattress is its capability to provide maximum comfort. The layers essentially conform to the shape of your body.

That means the material fills in around frequent pressure points, such as your lower back, providing even pressure alleviation. Many people battle with terrible posture throughout the day, and the same is true at night.

On the other hand, a memory foam mattress can help you achieve better spinal alignment by filling in the gaps surrounding your body and keeping your back straight.

Memory foam mattresses are also the most excellent choice if your bedmate is a tosser and turner, as they have less bounce and motion transfer. If you share a memory foam mattress with your spouse, you’ll be much less likely to wake up if they writhe around all night.

Because a better aligned nocturnal posture can positively improve breathing, memory foam can even aid with snoring.

Memory foam mattresses are top-rated among people with allergies because they are dust resistant and relatively easier to clean compared to other types of mattresses.

However, it would be best to look for a memory foam mattress that regulates body heat adequately, as some of these beds may get rather hot. To avoid sweating while sleeping, look for memory foam mattresses that feature layers with cooling gel infusions.

Honestly, there is no such thing as a “best mattress” because these two types of mattresses have different features. You can’t ask someone to choose the greatest mattress for you, and you can’t ask them which of the two is superior; it’s entirely up to you.

If you have back difficulties, a squirmy sleeping companion, or if you sleep on your back and want a mattress that will fill in the required nooks and crannies of your spine, a memory foam mattress is a way to go.

Make sure you don’t mind the feeling of sinking into a mattress, as it takes some time to get used to. If you’re the kind who wakes up sweaty in the middle of the night, avoid memory foam because it can feel excessively clammy.

In theory, a hybrid mattress is probably your best pick if you enjoy memory foam but aren’t sold on it. Perhaps you prefer a more substantial foundation because you sleep on your side and want a little more bounce.

Maybe you’re a hot mess who doesn’t want to sweat all over the foam every night. Perhaps you and your partner are lucky enough to be tranquil sleepers in need of a soft, semi-contoured, but still traditional mattress. If that’s the case, the hybrid is the way to go.
