Or are you searching for ways to increase your home’s value before a sale? While some trends come and go quickly, others seem to be here to stay for a while. Here are some of the most interesting kitchen trends:

Dramatic Range Hoods

One of the results of the modern, minimalistic trend is the idea of adding one or two dramatic, high-quality features. Rather than using expensive and elegant features everywhere, the new style tends to let one or two things become the focus and speak for the whole room.

One of the best ways to do this is through a beautiful, eye-catching range hood. Because a range hood is practical and elegant, it works well to bring style to almost any kitchen design.

In a small or light-colored kitchen, white vent hoods can add an understated and elegant look. Other kitchens call for more dramatic hoods such as hammered copper or brass.

Library Ladder for the Kitchen

Do you have a tall kitchen with unreachable cabinets? Does the wasted storage frustrate you? One trending solution is to install a library ladder in your kitchen.

Library ladders are mounted to the wall and move on tracks or rollers. Not only are they practical, but they also look pretty cool too!

Blue or Green Cabinets

In a move away from neutrals and grays, the new fashionable colors for cabinets are blue and green. Whether muted in a farmhouse or beach style, bright in a vintage setting or dark and coupled with natural elements, blue and green are becoming the new neutrals in the house.

Metal Features

Metal features can be used in almost any style of decor, from farmhouse to modern to elegant. The industrial look thrives on exposed pipes and brickwork.

Vintage kitchens incorporate shiny, smooth chrome or gold. Copper is fitting in rustic, Tuscan, or farmhouse styles. There is metal in every kitchen, in appliances, faucets, and hardware. Consider incorporating it in unconventional ways, such as a copper sink, brass range hood, or shiny silver tile.

Hidden Appliances

Appliances can be hidden from view by using a variety of techniques. Small appliances such as microwaves and toasters can be built into cabinets where they can be used and stored in place.

Large appliances can be hidden behind cupboard doors or covered with custom fronts that match your cabinets.

Custom Stools

Custom stools in the kitchen are becoming a trendy addition that brings style and uniqueness. Whether you get custom-made stools from a woodworker or metalworker, find vintage options and refinish them, or search in high-end markets for ready-made, unusual options, kitchen stools can become feature pieces.

Change Up the Uppers

We are rethinking upper cabinets. Minimalist, farmhouse, and industrial kitchens may skip the uppers altogether and go with open shelving or bare walls.

Other options include glass-fronted uppers, or refinishing the uppers in a contrasting color or style. One trend that has helped smaller kitchens to look more open is using color on the lower cabinets and white on the uppers.

Natural Elements

Natural elements add style and interest to kitchens of every style. From wood flooring and shelves to live plants and rock, natural elements can make your kitchen feel more unique.

Consider a living wall or plants incorporated into the design to add color and a sense of freshness. A natural stone fireplace, backsplash, or floor can bring a rustic or farmhouse look to your space. Twine, natural wood, stone, and décor items taken directly from nature can be cheaper ways to get the same feel.

Herringbone

The herringbone pattern can add a bit of interest to what may otherwise be fairly normal materials. This is done using ordinary tile, flooring, or wood, but installing it in a herringbone style.

This works on the backsplash, floor, or walls. The back of an island is a blank slate in most homes and the perfect place for a herringbone pattern.

Incorporate Black

Black is a dramatic and classy color that can bring style and interest into your kitchen. It can be used in a bold way, like installing black cupboards, countertops, and walls. It can also be incorporated as an accent in the backsplash, hardware, or lighting.

Dramatic Lighting

Consider adding an interesting lighting fixture over the island, stove, or other work area. These fixtures are found in lighting and home improvement stores, or, for a unique, one-of-a-kind look, find someone to make a custom feature.

When you are adding dramatic lighting it’s easy to go overboard and use too many styles or lights. One dramatic hanging fixture in the kitchen is usually enough and better than several lights.

Modern with Vintage

Coupling a modern look with vintage features is a good way to make your style unique and balanced. A modern kitchen with a few woven baskets on a shelf, vintage stools, or an antique light fixture can be eye-catching and stylish. Industrial and farmhouse styles also incorporate antiques or vintage features in a modern, minimalistic way.
