LED grow lights are without a doubt a revolutionary invention. Not only do they target exact wavelengths of light necessary for growing plants, they are low maintenance and prove to be the most cost effective lights for growing indoor plants. Although higher quality lights will provide successful flowering results, some people claim that LED grow lights are good for the vegetative stage only and not for the flowering stage.

On the contrary, high quality led lights are designed exclusively for both the vegetative and flowering stages of plant growth. With the correct LED grow lights, not only will the plants thrive during the flowering stage, but they will have increased resin production and trichome formation.

The Trichrome and Resin

The trichrome is a white bulbous part that grows around the flower. It has a stalk and head and inside the head there is a sticky substance that is called resin. Initially, the resin is white but eventually it turns to amber. In the growth of many plants, this resin is of great importance. For such plants, it is important that the plant enters the flowering stage as the trichromes start appearing after fourth or fifth week of the flowering stage.

Switching From Vegetative to Flowering Stage Using the LED lights

For successful plant flowering with indoor grow lights, the key is to adjust the lights in order to move from vegetative to the flowering stage. What you need to keep in mind is that indoor harvesting is oblivious to the season outside. You create an environment inside an enclosed space that tricks the plants into believing a seasonal change. So your goal should be provide the right amount of lighting that would trick the plant into believing that the flowering season has arrived. For that you need to increase the ratio of the red light. The higher amount of red light will lead the plant into believing that sun is lower in the sky hence the autumn season has arrived.

Adjusting the Red Light Ratio

An effective LED grow light system will allow for growth for both vegetative and flowering stage. The most convenient way to make sure it happens is adding an additional all red LED light along with grow light that you are already using. In addition to adding more light intensity, adding an extra LED red light will ensure that there are enough red hues to trigger the growth of flowers. If you do not want to add an extra red light, you can switch to the bloom only light during the flowering stage, which will automatically adjust the red vs. blue ratio.

Maintaining the Resin Production

The correct proportion of red color is necessary for optimal flower production. Increasing resin production by using ultraviolet light has proven to be very effective when growing plants indoors. The best led grow lights will have a correct weighted average ratio of primary, secondary and tertiary wavelengths of visible light, along with light energy from the ultraviolet and deep red ranges. Keeping the light frequency consistent during the entire flowering stage is very important.

Trichromes start appearing during 4th-5th week of the flower production. Once the trichromes start appearing, the flowering production becomes slow. The goal is to have the milky white resin change colors to deep amber. For that you must keep the light adjustment stagnant. When the resin turns amber, you can start harvesting your plant.

Hey dear, its a great article you wrote..You described well.As far as i know about led grow lights that is the proper lighting.I mean if anybody choose the right grow light for fertilization that will be enough. And obviously adjusting the red light ratio and maintain the resin production is very important that you mentioned already.

    Thanks.
