Kissing bugs have the name because their bites are often around the mouth but sometimes eye area as well. They feed during the night making them hide during the day making it difficult for you to get rid of them.

These insects can go for weeks without feeding. They are wingless insects that are about 0.7inch long. The colors of kissing bugs are dark brown or black with red or orange spots along the edges of their bodies. They are also known as cone-nosed or assassin bugs.

Like I said before, these insects are very good at hiding and not likely to be seen in the open during the day because they mostly come out at night. The common way to know you have these kissers in your home is through their bites, and they sometimes fly to lights at night.

However, there are other sources that can result in similar skin inflammation. But you do need to consult a doctor to determine the cause of body signs. Here are tips to help you get rid of kissing bugs.

How to Get Rid of Kissing Bugs

These are some tips to prevent kissing bugs, including the following;

  • Make sure you repair cracks in a foundation that would allow insects to enter.
  • Shut all exterior doors tightly.
  • Inspect your pets for these bugs in their fur and beddings.
  • Change porch lights to bug light bulbs
  • Repair any damaged screen on all windows, attic vents, crawlspace vents.
  • Caulk around any openings for utility line, cables, and plumbing pipes.
  • Replace damaged weather stripping.

How to Treat Kissing Bug Bite

It is essential that you treat your kissing bugs bite, contact a health professional as soon as possible. If you are certain that these insects have bitten you, and you are experiencing some of the allergic reactions you should immediately contact a healthcare professional or go straight to the emergency room as soon as possible as the inflammation and swelling are getting fatal.
