Introduction: Designing for Real Life and Style

Here at Northside Developments, the finest of interiors must be both functional and possess an identity. The other day we have renovated a space where usable design elements were combined with quite emotional decorations which finally gave a home to a building that matches the lifestyle and the character of its homeowners.

This is a place where every picture is warmer than the other- elegant and still completely worn out, ideal for the daily business of a family.

Stick around as I elaborate some design decisions and decorating ideas that culminated in the project. Starting from age-old materials to inventive embellishments, every choice stemmed from the aspiration to make a house into a home.

Choosing a Palette that Breathes Life into Every Room

The colour palette for this residence provided the basis for our design, establishing an ambience of coziness and elegance without any sensory overload.

Choosing a Palette that Breathes Life into Every Room

Earthy Neutrals with Pops of Colour

We began with a foundation of natural muted tones – warm soft whites, greys and taupes – sprinkles of colours in strategic places applied to them. A little bit of colour introduced within a space creates a nice and refreshing contrast which breaks monotony without overwhelming the space.

For example, the sage green cabinets in the kitchen are offer character to the room, while the living room’s blue cushions inject a semblance of freshness.

Advice for those who are thinking about using a neutral color scheme: colored accents should be used and mixed-a lot. A combination of the neutral foundation with soft blues or greens can work wonders, as they provide just the right amount of color while still being soothing.

Low-VOC Paints: A Healthier Home

The use of low-VOC paints was a major concern in this project. This is especially important in areas such as bedrooms or living rooms where families spend most of their time since they assist in enhancing the air quality. You can keep an unobtrusive environment and still use the colors that you like easily.

Living Room: Where Function Meets Flair

The living room of this house serves the purpose of more than just sitting — it is a focal point for family activities that include family games, quiet evenings, and hosting guests.

Mixing Textures for a Layered Look

One way to create an inviting living room that still feels opulent is to focus on textural variations. In this case, we placed a soft, cream-colored area rug over the hard wooden floors, added some linen pads, and a warm woolen throw along with the rug. Textured layers enhance the personality of spaces creating visual appeal and depth.

For this purpose, we implemented a reclaimed wood coffee table that adds a touch of rustic elegance. Incorporating natural elements like wool, linen, and timber, on the other hand, provides an appealing juxtaposition and aids in lending a genuine and down to earth feel to the area.

Embracing Natural Light

One of the most important design elements that a room can feature is natural lighting. Thanks to large windows, this living room space is well-lit as the sun shines through during the day enhancing the mood of the place.

The window treatment was kept simple; sheer curtains were added to class up the room without depriving the room from its natural light. To lighten a space can do a 180 degree change in how positive and energetic the environment is.

The Heart of the Home: Designing a Practical Yet Stylish Kitchen

In this kitchen, the intention was the creation of an aesthetically pleasing intertwined with a functional everyday space.

Timeless Fixtures and Finishes

To achieve both functionality and sophistication, we opted for quartz countertops with a marble finish, which were complemented by brushed brass fixtures to provide an understated opulence to the cabinetry. It also adds an element of stylishness to this otherwise simple kitchen.

There is a stylishness to the use of brass that is contemporary yet classic at the same time. Rondeaus Brass finishes are very beautiful but detail-oriented and restrained enough to work well with numerous shades, offering a sheen that’s not over the top.

The material quartz is also excellent for kitchen worktops as it is very stain and scratch resistant, which is perfect for a busy area like the kitchen. For people who enjoy cooking and hosting parties, it is a wonderful purchase decision.

Smart Storage Solutions

In order to maintain a neat and tidy appearance of the kitchen, we have incorporated pull out drawers and an additional pantry with open shelves. The lack of clutter enables the usage of countertops solely for food preparation and serving rather than on storing kitchen utensils.

Even in tight kitchen spaces, such tasteful and practical storage aids are able to preserve the intended sleekness and practicality of the work area.

Dining Room: A Space for Making Memories

The dining room, which is located almost next to the kitchen, plays a significant role in many family activities. In designing this particular space, we tried to make it feel open and yet still private at the same time with the use of warm woods and dim lighting.

Dining Room: A Space for Making Memories

A Statement Dining Table

At the heart of this establishment is a massive dining table made of wood, ideal for any convivial atmosphere. The surface treatment of this dining item has a worn-out look that comes with the passage of time.

The table is also complemented with a set of soft-colored chairs for side seating that invites to partake in the meals and the gossips that follow.

Mood Lighting with a Personal Touch

The ambient light in the dinner room is an essential component in creating the desired atmosphere. In this case, we decided on a more minimalistic pendant light protrusion which softly illuminates the table.

Also, together with dimmer switches, it enables the family to adjust how bright it is depending on the situation be it a very bright family breakfast or a soft lit dinner.

Personalising Bedrooms with Comfort and Style

Bedrooms are meant to be peaceful spaces, and every room of this house was created in a way to suit the personality of its owner.

Creating Calm in the Master Bedroom

The color scheme of the master bedroom is kept simple and soothing. We introduced a soft grey upholstered headboard that brings in an element of sophistication but does not overpower the space. Several varying sheets of linen along with a big comforter make it comfortable enough to desire a nap or even sleep.

Fun, Functional Spaces for Kids

Children’s rooms were created with a balance of utility and sensibility. In this case, we propose incorporating the creative storage solution of built-in shelves in order to keep the place organized yet allowing children to display their favorite books and toys.

The addition of a chalkboard wall in one of the rooms provides a creative outlet that can be started anew at any time with a change in designs. It is a simple luxurious concept that has a great impact.

Bathroom Bliss: Combining Practicality with Pampering

A bathroom that has been thoughtfully constructed can easily rival a personal retreat. In this particular dwelling, we incorporated elements that embraced both the practical and the touch of luxury in the materials and fixtures that we used.

Bathroom Bliss: Combining Practicality with Pampering

Choosing Durable and Elegant Finishes

The washroom is adorned with matte finish porcelain tiles that accentuate the elegance and at the same time make it less strenuous to maintain. We chose a floating vanity since it creates an illusion of space and simplifies cleaning.

As a little luxury, we included a rain shower heads in the main bathroom. These little elements help transform everyday activities into pampering rituals. Keeping in line with the overall décor, the brushed nickel fixtures are modern yet timeless.

Well-Planned Lighting

When it comes to the bathroom, lighting is a must not only for its functional purpose but also in order to maintain a serene setting. The overhead and vanity lights combined enable one to have enough brightness for dressing up, while sconce lighting for evening hours is much softer relaxing the mood.

Outdoor Living: Bringing the Indoors Out

In Perth, the importance of outside spaces is almost equal to that of inside rooms. Consider this project, in which we designed a warm and inviting outdoor living space which seamlessly fuses with the interior of the house.

Final Thoughts: Designing for Life’s Little Moments

Looking back at this project, it is obvious that the ‘best designs’ are the ones that are more personal to oneself. Every aspect of this house renovation was selected based on the family’s way of living and preferences making spaces that are a very refreshing, practical and most importantly, soul-packed.

From the sun that illuminates the sitting area to the decorative elements present in the children’s bedrooms, every aspect is carefully designed to create a home that is as individual as its occupants.

At Northside Developments, we hold that, A beautiful home is, in fact, one that makes everyday moments enjoyable. This project is proof of that, and we are beyond delighted to have been a part of it.
