How would you define design minimalism ?

Some people equate minimalism with a home that doesn’t have any decorative details, but that’s not what it’s about.

A minimalist approach to design emphasizes clean lines, simplicity, form, and functionality. Everything’s streamlined to create an uncluttered and relaxing environment.

1. Eliminate Clutter

If there’s one thing that should be absent in a minimalist house interior design, it’s clutter, not furnishings.

Of course, getting rid of clutter isn’t always easy, so it helps to remember the “one in, one out” rule. This means that for every item that comes into your home, you should get rid of another (preferably old) object.

Now, if you’re still seeing a lot of clutter in your home, look for items that are just gathering dust. If you haven’t used them in a while, it’s time to remove them from your home.

Don’t feel guilty about doing this because you can always sell these items or better yet, donate them to those in need.

2. Don’t Be Afraid to Make a Space Look Warm and Comforting

One of the biggest challenges when attempting a minimalist house design is making spaces look warm and inviting.

Especially if you’re set on a monochromatic color palette, you might feel that you have to add and add items just to make rooms feel more welcoming.

Here’s what you can do to avoid that. You can stick to neutral tones, but make sure to combine different shades, tints, and textures.

For example, if your palette is light grey, try linen wallpaper for your walls, wool rugs for your floor, and one focal item like an armchair in a contrasting color.

3. Prioritize Balance When Going for a Minimalist House Design

The best minimalist house design doesn’t have pieces that are distracting. Every item serves a purpose, which makes achieving a balanced, cohesive look easier.

That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t choose interesting pieces. Take corner sliding doors systems as an example.

They’re a great way to divide a space, but they can also stand on their own as a piece of art. In some cases, they can even be the main focal point of a room.

4. Think Stylish Storage

If you can’t be a full-on minimalist but are still a big fan of this design style, you can go for storage options that hide clutter you can’t bring yourself to throw out.

Choose pieces that are made with natural materials if you can. They go well with a white color scheme. If they double as decorative items, better, for example, woven baskets that serve as storage for your workout gear.

5. Let in as Much Natural Light as Possible

Are you still having problems with making spaces look warm and cozy? Another way to avoid making rooms look stark and clinical is to let natural light do its work.

This can be achieved with the right use of paint, window treatments, and accessories like a mirror that can bounce light around a space.
