Unfortunately, not all houses have high-tech alarm systems . If you are considering buying an old-style house or living in one, the chances are that you don’t have a security system. The good news is, you can keep your home safe even without alarms.

Here are some of the ways to do it. Also, we will touch on how to secure your valuable items and money in the case an intruder managed to break in.

Lock All Doors and Windows

The simplest and easiest way to secure your home, of course, is to securely lock everything. You may need to get some special locks to better secure your home.

You’ll also want to inspect your windows and doors regularly, fixing and mending any damage immediately.

Cover Heating System

Covering your heating system with things like a mirror or shelves can help to hide your valuable items from the eyes of intruders.

For example, you can keep some important items behind radiator covers during the summer when you don’t need to turn the heater on. This makes the items difficult to be found if an intruder managed to get into your house.

Get a Guard Dog

Some people get dogs not only because they want companions, but also as security measures. When thinking of security dogs, the first things that come to mind are the big breeds.

German shepherds, rottweilers, and Dobermans are few of the best elite protection dogs for sale. However, the truth is, you don’t really need to get these breeds most of the time.

Even the smallest dogs can be watchdogs which can be trained to bark on unfamiliar and sketchy people.

Chihuahuas and Shih Tzus are quite loud even with their small stature. Regardless of your choice, most burglars steer clear of houses with dogs anyway.

Bluff With Signs

Oftentimes, you don’t actually need to buy an expensive security system for your home. Instead, you can let the burglars think that you do have them. Because of this, it decreases the likelihood of burglars attempting to rob your home.

Leave the Lights Open

One of the oldest tricks in the book is leaving the lights, especially the one on the front porch. Why this work is because it gives the illusion that you’re at home even though you’re not.

However, for smarter burglars, this will hardly work. Instead, you can invest in a smart LED light.

These are lights that can manually be turned on and off through a remote device, like a phone or a tablet. It’s effective in throwing burglars off.

Your Friendly Neighbours

Being friendly with your neighbours have many advantages. One of which is the added safety of your home. If you befriend the people in your community, they will be more likely to be concerned about your safety.

Aside from that, when you go for long trips, you can trust them to watch over your home, in simple tasks like turning the lights on and off.

Watch Home Alone

Everyone remembers that movie where an 8-year old kid was left alone in their home. While the movie itself is comedic and fictional, some of the things in there can be used in real life.

For instance, you can try setting up a simple, non-lethal house trap that can scare the burglars away. Like Kevin, you may need some imagination.

Don’t Attract a Lot of Attention

If you want to secure your home against burglars, what you want to do is not to be one of their targets. How can you do this? When buying expensive appliances and gadgets, do not flaunt it.

Of course, that may not be your intention but you may be doing it without realizing. It’s best to keep them away from plain sight.

Cover your windows if necessary. When disposing of the boxes of the things that you bought, you may also want to be discreet as possible.

Do Some Landscaping

Covering your home with large bushes and trees may be a good idea at first. However, it can do more bad than good. They can provide burglars cover, which they can use to their advantage.

To avoid these instances, you may want to regularly maintain your yard. If you can’t do it, try getting hiring people to do it for you.
